Rice Chex NOT for sulfite intolerant!

I bought Rice Chex a while ago because I do better without wheat. Ooops! Didn't read the label carefully enough. It's gluten-free all right, but it has enough MOLASSES (can you read sulfite?) to give me an awful stomach upset, diarrhea and cardiac arrhythmia half an hour after consuming it.

My fault for not reading more closely. I was looking for a rice cereal that didn't have wheat.

I hope sulfite-intolerant people will join with me in emailing General Mills and other companies who make lovely gluten-free cereals and then contaminate them with molasses/sulfites. They could put a little more table sugar, preferably cane sugar, not beet, in the cereals and leave out the molasses and actually have a better-tasting product. I can actually taste the molasses, sort of a burned aftertaste. They could even leave out the molasses and not add sugar and the product would make even more people happy.

I am giving the nearly full box to my DIL because she tolerates sulfites - so far! Remember, it's often an acquired intolerance from eating too much processed food.

Look at the list of preservatives on that Rice Chex...could even contain MSG, but don't know...I think some food producers are cleaning up their foods...but preservatives are a factor.

Kelloggs doesn't add sulfites themselves. They buy molasses, which is sulfited unless labeled otherwise. Manufacturers don't have to disclose ingredients they don't add themselves. There must be quite a lot of sulfite in the product, judging from the strength of my reaction.

I got a response from Kellogg's asking me to call about this problem. I will, but as usual, there will be no action unless they get thousands more complaints.
