There are a lot of things that can cause nighttime breathing issues: asthma, GERD, post nasal drip, sleep apnea, etc. and the treatment for all of them would be different. Your best bet would be to see your doctor and get the correct diagnosis.
If you've been diagnosed with asthma before, then maybe it is your asthma and it isn't being well controlled. Which again would merit a visit to your doctor.
