Hello! I'm Rose and I usually post in the Anxiety forums, since I've been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks for a few years now.
Recently I was diagnosed with different food allergies and I have a ton of questions. The day My doctor gave me the results of my prick test and a list of which foods I should avoid, I did not really have any questions in mind and now I do, and my next appointment is in 6 weeks.
What prompted my visit to the allergist in the first place was that I got hives almost all over my body one day, no trouble breathing or infflamation, just itchy hives. I took a zyrtec and the next day they had faded some. By night time the hives returned, I took another zyrtc and made an Appt to see the allergist the next day. I must clairfy that I have never been allergic to anything in my whole life, I thought a couple years back that I had developed an allergy or sensitivity to pineapple so I stopped eating eat. And that was it.
My Dr. asked for a bunche of lab test, including an IgE test wich results were a whopping 260. Normal Reading should be 30-80. With those results the doctor ordered a prick test. And those results really surprised me! I got a 1+ in a lof of foods that I eat regularly and a 1-2+ in egg whites, mustard, kidney beans and pumpkin.
I was advised to stop eating those 4 foods for 8 weeks. And only eat twice a week the foods where I got a 1+. It has been really hard for me, because casein is in that group and I used to eat cheese everyday and I really miss it. Also in that group there's: chicken, beef, rice, cow milk, lettuce, corn, shrimp, tuna, garlic, spinach, clams, crab and soy.
My question is: Will I ever be able to eat those things again? Also, how bad of a reaction could I get if my results on the prick test were that low? My doctor did not prescribe epipen or anything, just said to take an over the counter antihistamine If I encountered any reaction, but as an anxiety sufferer, who's main detonator is health anxiety, I'm starving myself! thinking about the posible reactions and about all the foods they did not include in my prick test that I might be allergic to.
Sorry for the long post and also for any gramar/spelling mistake, English is not my primary language :)
