Vitamin C is amazing for me.
I read Linus Pauling's book many years ago and gave it a shot. He recommends taking it to just under bowel tolerance. If you take too much, you will get diarrhea but you basically want just under that amount. The more your body needs, the more you are able to take.
When I'm having really bad allergies, I can sometimes take up to 20g/day. I've never really gotten myself to full bowel tolerance. I just take it until I feel better and then take more a few hours later or whenever I feel a bit of something coming back.
It really makes a difference how you take the vitamin C. When I take ascorbic acid powder, I will go from a full allergy attack (lots of sneezing, runny nose, some coughing) to literally zero symptoms and feeling good within minutes. It's ridiculous.
Vitamin C pills never have that effect for some reason.
I also love liposomal Vitamin C, but it doesn't kick in as quickly (and is quite expensive).
I also have a few food allergies, and I don't think it makes sense to take Vitamin C to counteract eating something you are allergic to (unless you did it on accident).
