Has anyone had Titanium testing?

Hi,

I'm trying everything we can think of for my daughters sudden onset of muscle pain.
She does have ulcerative colitis, positive lupus, probably drug induced, but the, severe pain that we thought was from the lupus didn't respond to very high dosing of steroids, and because of that the rheumatologist believes there's an underlying problem causing the muscle and joint pain.
She has a titanium dental implant that went in around January of 2018, and the pain began in April.

Anyone with any experience of this kind, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Jayce, I have no experience with the implant. To test for metal allergies it’s a blood test. I know before titanium came along, people needing say a hip or knee replacement drs would have them tested for metal allergies. Titanium is one of the metals least likely to cause issues in knees & hips, including spine surgery. I am not saying your daughter is not sensitive to it.

I did a search & yes there is a blood test that can be done to check for sensitivity to titanium. Quest Diagnostics which is a lab across the country came up. I do not know what lab the dr uses, but I would call the lab & ask what test on the sheet needs to be checked to have it done. You know the sheets we are given for lab work, this is what I am talking about. Testing for this is no different than testing for other metal sensitivities.

Steroids don't very often help with Lupus pain. Steroids treat inflammation, and the idea is that it's the Lupus inflammation causing the pain. This is often NOT the case.

Muscle and joint pain from Lupus is fairly common, I am surprised that the Dr is only treating with steroids. (Or maybe she's getting more treatment you didn't mention?)

Lupus treatment is initially Plaquenil (inhibts disease progression) and Prednisone (steroid), then to replace the steroids with a longer term treatment Drs move to either Cellcept, Imuran, or MTX. There is no predicting which patient will respond to which of these 3, so sometimes it's trial and error. For more severe cases there are other medications.

If drug-induced Lupus is suspected (I'm guessing from Humaira?) the suspected drug is stopped and it generally takes 2-6 months for the Lupus to subside.

Straydog thank you again, I appreciate your help. Yes we know quest very well. For some reason my daughter thought she had to send her blood to Europe for the Melissa test. I will call quest and ask about it.

GreenBeans thank you, the rheumatologist said no plaquenil because of her ulcerative colitis and the gastro is done with her until this is settled. She was in remission from remicade so it was stopped and we're holding our breath..he tried elavil and then flexoral, she couldn't even get out of bed and still hurt from those. She does work and is trying to keep working thinking this will work itself out soon. We are seeing another rheumatologist next week. The current dr is the head of the rheumatology department but I think he' must not have experience with this problem, or he just isn't thinking. She has taken methotrexate and if I knew that it was used for this in some cases we would have asked.
We do know that the pain can happen from the remicade, but she's just getting worse and is grasping at straws, so the implant was a thought.

An implant procedure requires several materials other than Ti as well. But even if there were a connection, what could be done about it?
