Only one nostril constant irritation and sneezing

Hi tham, welcome to Healingwell :) Have you tried prescription nose sprays yet such as Nasonex or Flonase? Have you tried any OTC nasal sprays like saline? I usually only get that feeling when I get a cold but it is HIGHLY annoying is it not??? What meds are you on if any?

Could your high blood pressure be the reason for this problem? I know high blood pressure can do some strange things to your body and nose bleeds or nasal sensitivity is among them. Do you have your high blood pressure under control?

ohhhhh That darn inner ear itch! I've had that before too and it will drive you batty I tell ya!

Good luck!  I can't see how a shot will help.  They keep treating my problem as an allergy, but I don't believe that's all it is.  Why soooo severe in ONE side and nothing in the other?  It must be some physical issue with the lining of that nostril I am convinced.

I had that side cauterized but it still bleeds often.  Haven't had an "episode" since this post, but I have little confidence it is solved.

Just a quick 24 hour update. I had the shot yesterday at the docs office. The nurse told me it was called Kenalog. I was also told to start taking an antibiotic (Keflex) because it looked like I had a nasal infection? I absolutely HATE to take antibiotics, because I've had adverse or allergic reactions to every one of them except Keflex. I hate to risk building up an immunity to it unless I really need it, but I guess I will go ahead with it. I feel a little better today, but still have that itch midway up my left nostril, and still have a runny nose. Oh yes - I too have itching in my ears that drives me absolutely crazy. I will say that it has gone away (temporarily I am sure) since I had the cortisone shot. It has rained a whole lot here this past month. I'm hoping that when the sun finally comes out for a few days that maybe my allergies will get better?

Ok, I have this EXACT SAME thing happen to me! I thought I was a freak. I'm 23 now and the first time it really started was a few years ago. I was playing soccer and was pretty out of shape at the time. I had a bad asthma attack and then..... the nose! It was awful. I started sneezing uncontrolabley and I had this burning in my right nostril. My right nostril and right eye poured for about a week I want to say. But the entire time I had that God awful sensation in my right nostril. It felt like a bug flew up my nose and was vibrating every time I breathed in.

Anyway, I never found an answer to it, but I just started playing soccer for my college, and it started happening AGAIN! It sucks! I have that feeling in my right nostril right now! It was sooo bad the first day of practice. Anyway... I'd really like to know if you have discovered any massive breakthroughs with this. I really hope you check this thing, I cant believe this happens to someone else.

I've got to replying to some of this... First, I have had the same problem with my right nostril. "like a bug" has made a home there and descides to move around a bit midway up there at anytime it decides. I haven't had a chance to go and check it there is a polyp with a doc yet but will soon. However, this is what I've observed over the past few years dealing with this unusual aweful sensation that may sound like allergies, but I know is not. First, the crazy iching attact only is affected from one side of the nose, and as a respond to Joy, it is not an allergic reaction to seasonal allergies on one side of the nose... the reason why is I get these aweful itch attack, many time inside a filtered invironment. I woudn't doubt that any pollen or particles in the air can't contribute to the problem, but again my left nostril doesn't react at all. In trying to find out what in the factor is, I've noticed a pattern at least for me over the years. The syptoms accur only when I get hot... meaning in the winter I really have no problems. However, when it gets hotter in the summer, the attacks start to accur. That's why I found your initial description very interesting Tham, as you have huge itching attacks after playing soccer. I assume your body temp is way up. Look, I'm no doctor, so I'm not diagnosing anyone but for me, bodytemp has something to do with it, and I don't have highblood pressure. Another thing I've noticed, is if I eat a lot of sugar, not long afterwards I have attacks. I'm wondering if anyone knows if candida yeast overgrowth has anything to do with this problem we all have. From what I've read, Candida yeast overgrowth can do all sorts of things in the body and is caused by taking antiboitics without supplementing it with probiotics afterwards, thus your balance of good a bad bacteria are off wack causing candida overgrowth. At least this is what I've read, and if anyone see I've given mis info candida, please correct as I haven't look into it enough yet myself. I would sure like to rid myself of this nasal problem though, and it's nice to find others who can understand what it's like. My wife just looks at me like I'm crazy, and everyone else I try to explain it to... and you can tell what they are thinking, "oh you just have allergies" Man that is so not the case!

Saline wash might help.

I have systemic candida, which commonly occurs with cancer, also something I am battling. Nostril itch with clear discharge and violent sneezing just started. I wonder too about the candida connection. Go gluten-free and cut out sugars, then take Olive Leaf extract, Pau d'arco and other supplements to battle candida long-term.

I've got to join this party. The description that Tham gave, followed by others is practically identical to what I've been experiencing. I've never had allergies before, and the way this can come and go does not fit what I know about allergies. I've been experiencing this for several months now, but I feel it is becoming worse. With me, I get this irritation in the top of my left nostril. I have always thought it is unusual that the feeling has never been inside my sinuses, but at the top inside of my left nostril and nowhere else. In fact, when I feel this irritation the most, I can actually squeeze against the outside of the left part of my nose, towards the top where you would imagine the top-inside nostril space would be, and it feels like I'm squeezing the spot where the irritation is located. This comes on without warning, and that side of my nose immediately starts running like a faucet, and the irritation radiates into my left eye, causing my eye to water like crazy. Antihistamines have no effect at all. And just like it came on suddenly, it leaves just as suddenly. Literally like someone flipped a switch off. My experience has been that it has usually lasted less than 24 hours, but I'm having an episode of this that has lasted for a couple of days now. It is truly debilitating, and I'm praying there is some physician who can figure this out. That I found you guys who have described the same symptoms makes me feel better. At least I know I am not crazy. I have some additional information that might be helpful. I wear a C-PAP at night for sleep apnea, and whatever this is will go away while I am using the C-PAP (Thank you Jesus!). But in the morning, within a couple of minutes of waking up and removing the C-PAP, it starts right back up. I have wondered if the moisture that the C-PAP device adds to the positive air pressure being forced into my nose has caused some kind of yeast infection, and I see that some of you have suspected yeast. But wouldn't you think that if it was yeast, it would manifest itself in other ways and in other locations, like the other side of the nose or more inside the sinuses? I've only had this irritation in the one spot at the top of my left nostril. Lastly, I have been unable to associate this with any activity or environment. It can come on when I'm active or not active, when I'm at home or at work, or in my car, and it will follow me from place to place. I feel like it does get a little better when I go outside in the cold. And I have not associated its coming on with any food I've eaten. I do feel that when I have gone for a few weeks without any problem and it starts back up, it seems to have always started soon after removing my C-PAP in the morning.

If anyone comes up with any information that might explain this and how to treat it, I would be most grateful if you could post the information here.

This is the first time ive experienced this. Its definitely not allergies because I have allergies and know how they feel. Plus they dont usually sneak up on me when im asleep.
What happened was I was sleeping then around 4am I woke up sneezing and ive been sneezing ever since. I too have the tickly bug feeling in my right nose and im just coming to the end of a bad cold ive had for past 6 days. But this is something ive never experienced before I hope anf answer to problem comes soon. Its only 6:52 im already exhausted and my two year old will be awake soon so cant sleep even if I could urgh. Hopefully someone will know whats causing it soon x

This exact thing happens to me about twice a year. Something has got in there and is setting up house. You need to get a NetiPot and flush the wee beastie out. That's what I do and it works everytime.

It really does feel like there is a bug up your nose. I usually sneeze my head off and start dripping like a faucet.

It's a simple case of eviction.
