Allergy med recommendations?

My allergies are absolutely horrible so I thought I would ask for recommendations as to what to try.  I have used Clariten - does nothing for me and hypes me up, Allegra - leaves sores in my nose and doesn't work very well either, Tylonel Sinus - it doesn't last very long.  What other medication is available besides nasal sprays?  I've used Flonase in the past and it gave me the most horrible cold (which turned into bronchitis) in my life! So I'm leery of nose sprays.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Red, I use Zyrtec D, but if you have trouble with the allergy meds making you hyper, that probably wouldn't work for you either.  I may have a solution for the nose sores though.  Ayr is an OTC saline nasal gel that works wonders.  My allergist told me about it.  Those nose sores make it even harder to breathe!

Thanks Carla. I only get the hyperness with Clariten for some reason and no other allergy med I've tried. Left my doctor scratching her head on that one! lol I can't take the 24 hour Clariten because I found it give me horrible insomnia but I do ok with the 12 hour but it doesn't really help me.

I think I may ask my doctor about Zyrtec and see what she says. Thanks for the idea!

So I went into the doctor today and she told me to stay on the Allegra but add Sudafed plus Nasonex. She also drew some blood to test me to see what I'm allergic to. I've had allergies for years but never bothered to find out what I was allergic to. So I'm a curious as to what comes up. If in a month, I'm not better, she wants me to add Singulair to the mix. All I know is that my allergies are extremely horrible for some reason!

Depends on what you're allergic to and what your symptoms are. Recently I've tried taking "Advair" because I have a reaction to pet dander. I tried the 24 hr kind. Compared to not taking anything and falling asleep the whole time I'm visiting, it helps a lot.

My daughter doesn't have asthma like I do, but she has pretty bad allergies.  Her allergist (the same one I see) added Singulair to her Zyrtec D and that seems to work well for her.  I used to take Singulair also.  It doesn't seem to have any ill side effects and it is used a lot for allergies also, not just asthma.

I really worry that this daughter will end up with asthma because she seems to be following in my footsteps with allergies and respiratory problems.  She takes good care of herself and she doesn't smoke either, so there's not much else to do, well there is.  It's in God's hands.

I would suggest trying a preventive measure. I found nasal covers to eliviete my triggers. Claritan wasn't working had had to many side effects unlike cleanose filters that just cover your nose and prevent it before it happens instead of treating it after it happens. Hope this helps it sure did me.

Have you tried Benadryl? It works pretty good ,the pink allergy kind.
