Chicken reaction?!!

Just recently i have had excrutiating abdominal pain about 2 hours after eating chicken. At first i thought it was food poising (first time was outside cooked on grill). I went to the hospital and they could not find anything wrong. I was prescribed pepcid and an antibactirial. 2nd time the pain and nasea was not as intense. 3rd time the pain was more intense. My doctor still can't find anything wrong. Now a new precription for prilosec. It is a dull crushing pain under my right rib cage and in the opening of my stomach which also travels down through out my stomach and into the intestinal area. follow by really bad nasea, sweat and chill and bad diareah. My mom thinks it might be my gall bladder. Oh did i mention that this only happens when i eat chicken. Purchased from different stores and different brands and cooked differently every time. This is the first time i have ever reated to chicken. I have no allergies at all. So why now??????? Please someone have some insight....................

You certainly shouldn't be eating any more chicken; your body is trying to tell you something when it reacts so strongly. Allergies can occur at any time for no apparent reason. I've just found that I'm now having allergic reactions to fresh cherries; go figure. Have you had the same type of reations to other foods that contain chicken such as hot dogs, soups, or sauces made from chicken stock?

In any case you should follow your doctor's advice. He should be made aware of the full extent of the allergic reactions including as acurate a time line of events as you can recall.

My daughter had this reaction when we bought chicken that was 'cheap'. When we switched to the 'no hormones - no antibiotics' chicken she was fine. She has allergies to lots of antibiotics and apparently there was enough in the chicken to give her a problem. We had this same thing happen with beef. For a while, until we got our stores and supplies sorted out, she was just about living on venison that friends had shot. We knew that was not medicated meat!

Now she buys organic meats from Costco and an organic butcher in her town. You might try this and see if it helps. You may be extra sensitive and lots of the meat out there is medicated because of the growing practices. Overcrowding in huge feed lots leads to easy spread of disease so some producers give preventative antibiotics to keep the herd/flock healthy, while at the same time exposing the public to drugs that they become sensitized to... What a hassle!

Before trying anymore chicken (even organic), get referred to an allergist for some allergy testing. I am anaphylactic (life threatening reactions) to chicken (and all fowl). My reactions also started with the GI symptoms, then each reaction continued to get worse and worse. But do stop eating all chicken, and you should probably stay away from all fowl/poultry until you find out what is causing your symptoms.

The good side is that i am not reacting to any other poultry ingredients (ex: chicken broth, etc).

They say that reacting to broth or oils tend to not cause reactions, because there is not much protein in there. But I would still stay away from everything with chicken. I still have reactions to broth.
