Sinus pain meds?

I have been on claritin once daily and flonase. Im wondering if there are any better meds to help with the pain. I always get pain in my jaw, daily and it was so bad lastnight, I resorted to taking a vicodin for the pain, that helped. I was thinking there has to be some kind of meds that help with this other than vicodin. Do I need a change of meds?

Before you ask, no I havent been to a allergist, or a ENT yet and its not dental related, since I bug the crap out of my dentist each time I get a sinus infection. I always think its a tooth before I admit its sinus related.

This last round, doc gave me antibiotics, I took them, but the pain/pressure was still in the same spot. If its all sinus, why is it always one side..and always effecting only the same 3 back upper teeth,never moves to the other side...ever?? confused

Hope someone here can understand my rambling, I would make more sense, but this drives me insane. I just want my normal life back sad

Hi and welcome to Healingwell :) I'm sorry that you're having to deal with the pain. There is nothing worse then jaw or teeth pain! Have you tried any other sinus meds? You might need an allergy med that has a decongestant in it to ease the pressure. Have you tried Clariten D? What about Allegra D? I honestly don't know why the pain would be on one side or the other but maybe one side is more sensitive then the other side. To get to root of the problem you really should consider seeing an ENT. They are much more knowledable about these things than a primary doctor. Do your ears ever feel full or clogged?

Thank you for the quick reply. I have tried Claritin D,made me too jittery and a little sick to the stomach. I have Tylenol sinus and mucinex D

which helps from time to time. Im sure I have alot of other different meds here all related to sinus issues,yet not many that help with the pain. Do some here take like the Tylenol Sinus daily?

As for the ears, they only seem to feel full on a very humid day here, which its now fall here, so I havent had that feeling for awhile now.

I hate to call the doc again and complain cause there are times I think he just dont understand that it HURTS.

I still take the regular Claritin daily, but I dont even know if thats helping. confused   I have a few more days of antibiotics I should take,but after taking a pain pills lastnight, I feel like this last round of pain wasnt a sinus infection confused

I will have to see how my insurance is with ENTs and who Im allowed to see,plus if I can afford it right now, since I think I have reached my annual limit insurance wise sad

I hate to think Im going to have to wait till the new yr to see a ENT, but I know Im close to that.

So sorry your in pain, Have you had a Ct scan of your sinuses? Have they put a tube up your nose to se whats going on? Thats what a good ENT would do....Just trying to help. The tube does hurt some but it helps them see up your nose better...I've had my sinuss drained and that hurts, but it also helped....Hope this helps...

No I have never had a CT scan. All I have done so far is talk to my primary care doc, which I only started to see about 6 months ago, before that, I have never needed a Doc sad

You sure dont make the scan sound all that pleasant,then again, this daily ache in the jaw isnt fun either.

For those of you that see a ENT,do they do anything for you on the first visit,or do you have to go back a few times to get answers?

I hate to make appts, expect help, only to be told to come back another day for test and whatnot.

I dont feel like my sinuses are full at all, I just have this dull sometimes not so dull ache in my left upper jaw.

Todays I decided to try a tylenol sinus and try to not have to use a vicodin, will see how that works.

Most specialists will have you set up the initial appt then make you come back for further studies - yes, I hate that too! Unless you call and make the appt and explain to them about the insurance situation then they might make an exception.

I used to take Tylonel Sinus everyday too when I had repetitive sinus infections and I believe that it caused a rebound effect on me. It worked great for the sinus pain but when it wore off, it felt like someone was throwing an ax in my forehead.

Thanks for the answer on the Tyleno sinus. I took some this AM and it helped with the pain. I cant see taking that each day, but it was nice that it took away todays pain. I was wondering if it had a rebound effect as many meds seem to have.

I talked to my primary care doc today and he wants to switch me to Zyrtec-D instead of the Claritin. Im suppose to give that a try and let him know how that is doing. Wish me luck,maybe I can hold off on the ENT till my insurance starts over for the next yr.

I suffered with chronic sinusitus for ten years...had antibiotics, painkillers etc...then my doc suggested a sinus washout....painful and did no good..so..in desperation had a sinus bore where the sinus tubes were cleared and bingo no problems for 10 years. breathe eady groovey
