prednisone again

Well just got back from the doctor's.  He put me back on Prednisone.  I hate this medicine so much it gives me all sorts of side effects.  He also put me on Symbicort which I have never been on before and some kind of cough medicine.  Asthma is the pits, I'm really feeling sorry for myself.  Oh well it could be worse.  Just complaining and bellyaching.  Sorry

I also take symbicort, I get along with it fine, I use the 160/ 2 puffs a day morning and evening. I was having to take the prednisone packet about every month to control my congested breathing but finally went to a pulmonologist who determined that I had asthma. So far the symbicort has worked very well, resolved my breathing problem at night and I can actually lay flat now and sleep. Was having to use three pillows and almost sit upright to get any rest. I use combivent as a rescue inhaler, but have had to use it very little.

I know how you hate Prednisone, so do I.  I have been on a round for about two weeks now.  Just remember, we're breathing.  It sure beats the alternative.  The sooner you let your doctor know you're in trouble, the better off you will be.  I whine about it too.  Just for fun and to let us vent a little, we could have a Prednisone Whiner's thread if you'd like.  Would you post there?  Those who don't have to take it don't understand what we go through.  Let me know what you think. 

Any thoughts from any of you other Prednisone users?  I know none of you enjoy it?

I was just getting off prednisone and went to doctor today and am starting back on also. Must be the weather. I do like to breath though:) I get very few side effects but I do have prednisone induced diabetes which might clear up once I can ever get off the prednisone. The diabetes and low carb diet took all the prednisone weight off though. Hang in there. One day they will find something else for us and we can wave goodbye to prednisone forever. Combivent is not a good rescue inhaler according to my doctors.

Yes I would whine about prednisone. Mostly it puts weight on me and I can't affort to gain any more weight. Sometimes I think I use it as an excuse just to eat more and that's more of the weight problem than the prednisone. My face gets a lot rounder on these meds. I must admit though it also helps the pain in my knee's. I am on a very high does now so it should work soon. I woke my husband up again last night with my whezing and he had to go down on the couch. It really is good to breath though. I heard the same thing about combivent that it's not a good rescue ihaler.
This Pulminary Specialist really knows what he's doing but he's so young he reminds me of Doggie Houser if anyone can remember him.

Yep, remember Doogie:) Definitely ask for a different rescue inhaler. It could mean your life. I have combivent but not as a rescue inhaler but a preventive one. I like albuterol but won't be able to get it much longer. Xopenex is a good one also. Take care.

I use albuterol for a rescue med it works good I use the same thing in my big nebulizer. The prednisone has also taken all the pain out of my knee's and that's wonderful I am never pain free in weather like this. It is a great day. We are stuck in because of the ice and we have wrapped all our Christmas Presants and now we are going to watch a movie. I am actually pain free for the first time in months. Have a happy Sunday everyone.

It's interesting that you mention how the Prednisone helps with your knee pain. Back in the 90's when I was very, very active, I wore out my knees.  I had surgery on both knees several times and still continued to have pain and just learned to live with it.  A couple of years ago a long time friend of mine who is a nurse asked me if I knew why I no longer had the pain in my knees.  Of course I did not.  She told me it was the Prednisone, which of course made sense to me.
