Okay to use Claritin daily?

So spring weather has only been around for a couple days and I'm already feeling the allergies--itchy eyes, tingly throat, runny nose and sneezing. I feel like it's going to be a bad allergy season. Is it okay to use Claritin daily?

Yes it's okay to use Clartin daily, it's been around for years...but you should see your
doctor cause if you have year round allergies you might need something stronger,
but it's always good to check with a doctor, keep us posted...

That's good to know! I took some Claritin after lunch and felt MUCH better.

Are there any eye drops other than Visine? Visine only gives me relief for 2-3 hours, so I'm wondering if there's anything else. Thanks!

Yes there are several forms of eye drops that do not contain vasoconstrictors such as Visine. Visine works really well but if it is used longer then 3 days can make your eyes dependant on it which Char stated - maybe into dry eyes but not Dry Eye. There is a difference between the two believe it or not. lol One tip on the Clariten, it is safe to take at any time of day BUT if you ever have to switch to Clariten D, this has to be taken in the mornings or it can interfer with your sleep.

Btw, I have a feeling also that this season is going to be HORRIBLE for allergies! I have been woken up several times in the past week or so from sneezing and then sneezing all morning long and I am on TWO allergy meds! Ugh! :)

Dry eyes are where your eyes dry out from a variety of things - wind, allergies, medicines, fatigue etc. Dry eye syndrome is where your eyes actually stop producing tears and is the result of diseases such as Lupus, Sjorens, RA, auto immune conditions and hormonal changes. Dry eyes can be soothed by OTC eye drops and can be a minor nuisance while Dry eye syndrome usually requires more attention. Yes, Visine shouldn't be used long term because the vasoconstictors (redness reliever) can have a rebound affect on some people. Meaning that it can cause you to use more and more of it to help the redness and itchiness or after stopping it, it can make your eyes feel worse. If you have allergy eyes, you can ask your dr for a prescription eye allergy drop.

Clariten does not contain a decongestant while Clariten D does. Decongestants can raise your pulse and heart rate which is why it shouldn't be taken at night. Decongestants are great if you have alot of post nasal drip. It helps dry the snot up :) But if you don't have any PND then regular Clariten works well.

And no, these meds won't interfer with your Uc and your meds.

I was wondering if you have tried any natural methods to achieve relief from allergies.
I have started taking lots of antioxidants to help my immune system stay healthy, and to help relieve excruciating sinus pain. I have never been an advocate of pharmeceuticals. I was just wondering if you have given anything else a try?

I've had better luck with Optique 1 eye drops (available in health food stores) than any other brand for general dryness, irritation, etc. I've also used Opcon-A antihistamine eye drops for severe eye allergy symptoms (works better than prescription Patanol drops for me).

Itchy skin could be from pollen allergies, but could also be from medications. Check with a pharmacist before adding over-the-counter medications just to make sure you don't have any interactions between your prescriptions and the over-the-counter meds.

Do you have an air filter that removes pollen and dust out of the air in your house? If not, I strongly recommend getting one...mine helps tremendously.
