Need info on singulair

My pulmonologist prescribed singulair for my allergies.  I also have asthma and take symbicort and use albuterol for rescue.  I also have a standing prescription for prednisone when I get bad - can't breathe.  I know many of you take singulair and I would like to know what your experiences are with it. Is this a med you like and does it help you? What kind of side effects do you get?  The bad week I have been having is going away and I am not needing my albuterol.  But I take so many meds for different things that I am afraid to add anything else. Please reply and let me know if singulair is a good med for you or if you also don't like it and why.  My dr. says some people think it's great and others say it does nothing for them.  He gave me samples to see how I like it and if I do i'll get a prescription.  Please reply as I am afraid to take this without knowing from those of you who do use and like this med. Thanks for any replies. I understand it is good for people with both allergies and asthma.

Hi Aurora,
I take Singular nightly. Generally, I haven't thought it did me much good, but after my surgery when I was dealing with a lung infection/asthma, I started taking it again, and it seemed to make a definite difference--improving my lungs.

I have had no side effects at all, as far as I can tell.

My Husband says it really helps keep his Asthma under control. Without it, he has constant low-level Asthma with flareups from almost everything (pollen, certain foods, exercise, etc.). He's not aware of any side-effects from it.

As for interactions with other meds, that's a better question to ask your pharmacist - they are trained about this in their pharmacy schooling.

Good luck with your asthma, Aurora. I'm suffering from a flare-up...assuming it's all the tree pollens. Last Thursday I got what feels like a "throat cold", and have gone downhill from there. My sinuses are bad, and my asthma is flaring up...the asthma stayed good for a long time...just got bad the past couple of days. Before that it was a cough, but not really tight.
Oh well...it's what happens with allergies and asthma.

I'm not quite sure if the reason I was getting short of breath was due to acid reflux or I was getting the beginnning of asthma due to allergies or what. But I started on Singulair 2 years ago because I was having a hard time taking a deep breath in the mornings and I always felt a bit winded. I have noticed a huge difference when I wake up in the mornings now.

Hi. I took Singulair for many years for my cat allergies. I still take it when I'm visiting family or friends with cats. I take it in combination with Allegra. The singulair helped my breathing a lot...not completely, but I'm way worse off when I don't take it. I never noticed any side effects. I also have an Albuterol inhaler that I use when I need it.

I have tons of reactions to medications and cannot tolerate antihystimenes. I was put on Singulair and loved it-no side effects and almost immediately my chest stopped closing up when I went outside even when the tree pollen was high.
I really like the singulair.
