Thirteen year old daughter with severe asthma need help!

cry  Hello my name is Susie and I am trying to find my daughter other Children with similar problems with whom she could talk to. She has had asthma since she was a baby but it has gotten much worse these las18 months. On March 24th of this year she had complete respitory failure. Furtuanetly they were able to revive her after working on her for a while. They tell us she had an air leak but did not give us any information on why or can it happen again or what can be done to avoid it. I am currently taking her an asthme and allergy speacilist and a pulmonoligist. They pretty much have tried all types of medications trying to find the one that will help her but so far not much. She has been on 60mg of prednisone for over a year along with numerous other medications. Now she is also getting Xolair shots every two weeks as well. She fights with me all the time about her having to take her medicine, she says whats the point if she still continues to be sick. She tells me that i do not understand , that i don't know what its like to constantly having to be taking so many medicines. When she finally woke up in the hospital after a few days a doctor told her that she had died and that she was very lucky that they were able to revive her. That traumitized her because she did not remember what had happenend to her and he was very blunt about it. She now has a therapist but does not seem to help I am hoping that if she can find other children that have severe illnesses as well to talk to that maybe it will help her. Hopefully she can find someone that she feels can understand her. cry

Susie, I'm sorry your daughter is having such a hard time. I'm not aware of any children who come here to talk.

I'm not a young child, but I teach first graders and I understand a child's mind. If she's willing I can talk to her about asthma. I will do my best to not frighten her and to answer her questions on her level. I've had asthma for 22 years and know the frustrations she is going through. I'm a willing ear for her.
Sometimes it helps to just have someone to talk to who is not Mom.
Think about it.

I'm surprised she never was told how dangerous asthma can be or is in some people..

She needs to know..........

Try looking at Barnes and Nobles or amazon.com, there are books on children
with asthma, and there are magazines for children and adults raising children with Asthma...

Thanks for that advice but we have all that what I am looking for is other young children with severe health problems that she can maybe chat with. She needs other kids with problems she can relate to
