Over-The-Counter Asthma Medicine for Stuttering?

First, a quick background. I have been stuttering since I was a young boy. It seems like the stuttering is related to, or at least worsened by, a constant tightness in my throat. Every morning I wake up with a minor sore throat (it feels dry and swollen) and throughout the day I can tell my throat is swollen or closed up more than it should be. When I am sick and have an actual sore throat caused by the cold virus, my stuttering is horrible and I can hardly talk.

So... I am thinking of trying an over-the-counter asthma medicine to see if it could reduce the tightness in my throat and possibly ease my stuttering. I don't have health insurance, so I need something over-the-counter or possibly using an online "pharmacy" if I can't find anything OTC. I went to Walgreens and asked the pharmacist if they had any OTC asthma medicines and she said they don't carry them anymore. Is this true for all OTC asthma medicines, or is it just Walgreens that doesn't carry them anymore?

Does this sound like a logical "experiment" for my stuttering? I've tried all kinds of things in the past, from speech therapy, to medications, to hypnosis, to delayed auditory feedback devices (as seen on Oprah) without any success. My stuttering isn't the typical kind and I believe it's related to something physical, such as my throat.
