I don't have curtains, decorative pillows, or stuffed animals. But I do have carpet, and I don't think removing it is an option--we only had it put in a few years ago! I am so sick of having a stuffed up nose all the time!

Well, I don't think the filter and special pillow are helping that much. I'm still stuffed up.

Maybe I should get the allergy shots...they won't affect my UC, right?

Have you tried an over-the-counter product called Nasal Rescue (made by Peaceful Mountain)? I have no financial interest in this company or product. My Naturopath recommended colloidal silver nasal rinses and I was at the health food store and found this Nasal Rescue product. It works wonders on my stuffed up nose (I have bad sinus allergies as well as sinus infection problems). I find I don't need it more than a couple times a day. I was using Pulmicort nebulizer solution sprayed in my nose and even it was not working anymore, so I'm really glad to have found the Nasal Rescue. I know, I probably sound like an infomercial or something...

Besides all the other suggestions here that are all essential, I would make sure that you wash your bedding weekly in very hot water. If you have a comforter and can't wash it often, take it out of the room and get a blanket you can wash. When I had carpet, I found that my sinuses were much better after I had the carpet steam cleaned. Just make sure they don't put a lot of perfume or deodorizing chemicals in with the cleaning. Do you have a hepa vacuum as well? That may help. Also, wiping the walls down with a damp mop/mild soap keeps them dust free. I hope you get some relief. My allergies are so much better in my bedroom where I have the air filter and do not allow my pets in there. It helps control the dander and dust in there. I do not have carpet, have everything encased, and wash my bedding every week in hot water. I don't even wash the floors very often or my blinds, drapes and I think it is the air filter. It wasn't all that expensive either, about $39 from Wal Mart.

Do you think your throat is sore because you have to open your mouth to breath since your nose is so clogged up? If this is the case, you can be snoring or just getting too much dry air into your throat. If you can get your nose stuffiness down, then you may not open your mouth as much when you sleep which in turn may make you not need a humidifier.

Yes, they make HEPA vacuums but the thing is that you have to replace the filter regularly or it won't work as well over time. I know some of them can be rather expensive. I used to have a Wind Tunnel with a HEPA filter and the filters were about $45 a piece to replace.

For my daughter (and her daughter's) allergies we purchase new pillows about every three months. Get them at Big Lots or any place we find them for about $5 apiece. Getting rid of carpet helped her allergies a LOT! Comforter goes into the freezer or out in the car if it's cold enough, about once a month to kill all the dust mites. Much easier on the blankets and linens if they get frozen instead of constantly washing. She has also found that in the summer showering just before bed is best. This rinses all the pollen and dust out of her hair so she doesn't have it next to her nose all night. NEVER hang sheets on the line outside. They just act as pollen magnets that gather all the allergens and then you fold it up and put it in your cupboard until you put it on your bed and try to sleep on it. Drying sheets on the line in your basement is ok. Good luck with this.

Yes, there are HEPA vacuums, air filters. Get that carpet steam cleaned but make sure they dry it thoroughly. I think the dry chem company is pretty good.

I guess I'll have to look into collodial silver nasal spray, although I'm not too crazy about spraying something into my nose. Sometimes I feel like the neti pot doesn't get everything out. Like yesterday, I used the neti pot and then tried to take a nap, but I couldn't fully breathe through my nose. Argh.
