Tinnitus from allergies or sinus

I have tinnitus from allergies or sinus. In my case sinus. I took the nasal spray afrin for a long period of time and contracted tinnitus. I have tinnitus for about a week now and I am awake half the night from the high pitch hissing/ringing in my right ear. Now I am trying to find relief since everything I have found said there is no none cure for it. There are hundreds of pills and sprays on the market that are tooooo expensive for my taste. I refuse to buy them. My tinnitus isn't so bad in the day time because there is a lot of noise to drown it out. If you know of any tinnitus relief that is affordable - please let me know.

I have a fan running at night to drown out the ringing in my ears. Sometimes it's so loud in the daytime it drives me nuts.
Mine is a consant squealing "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" with no change in pitch.
Very annoying. :(

I went to Patient's First yesterday, a neighborhood clinic.  The doctor prescribed ceuroxime 250 mg an antibiotic in pill form and fluticasone proionate nasal spray for the mucus in my nose.  I have been on it for 1 day and 1 night.  So far the ringing is still there.  The Doctor said if it doesn't clear up in a week - see an ear, nose and throat doctor for further treatment.  He checked me for hearing loss and I passed that with flying colors.  He said it is fixable if you aren't experiencing hearing loss.  I will check back to this site in a week to let you know if this doctor's treatment work.  I have the fan running at night and it seems to work.

i've had it from 19 years old and since i am 65 now am kind of used to it. there are pillows you can buy that have a recordings of the ocean or other soothing sounds to it. i believe the site is "now hear this" and they might help you. i found it by goggling tintinnitus.

i will say when i first had it...i thought i was blacking out in my sleep or something and it seemed to be SO LOUD. it did keep me from resting properly and i used a pillow over my ear to kind of block it out. of course none of the docs have ever mentioned allergies. eventually went for a hearing test and my hearing is above average.

hope you are improving or getting used to it. tater's idea of a fan sounds good. but if is below freezing might not be too comfortable.

to joan m and couchtater. I am 66 years old and I am half way in my treatment. I am sad to say that it is not working so far. The hissing sound is still there but not as loud and I can sleep. When my eyes open in the morning, I am greeted with the sound. I am afraid I too will have to live with it also. I love your suggestions. Keep them coming. I will check at walmart or target for that sound machine because you can not run a fan in the winter time. Thanks to everyone.

My brother suffered a recent sever bout of dizziness and collapsed , he then developed tinnitus he is 3 months in and going crazy with it , i ahve never seen him so depressed .
He has suffered the usual crap from the GP offering allsorts of potions betahistine , furosemide and valium but to no avail Eventually he got see a ENT who then prescribed the same drugs even though he said he had already tried them and they didnt work .

Unless you can pay private i dont hold out much hope for you on the NHS , though you may be not be from the uk so it may differ .

Well people, I went from "fedup" to "give up".  I tried the antibiotics the Doctor prescribed for 10 days and it bounced off the tinnitis like a rubber ball.  Actually, it made it worse.  I guess science will eventually come up with a solution to this problem if it bothers enough people.  In the meantime, I will take ALL your suggestions you have posted.
