Hello,
I'm usually on the crohn's disease forum, but have been having asthma symptoms lately and finally got a couple of prescriptions. One for albuterol and the other is for QVAR (beclomethasone dipropionate).
My asthma is not very bad in my opinion. Today I got worse symptoms because I was stirring up dust while cleaning. Sometimes, however, I notice some wheezing and it feels like the airways are a little tight just when I'm lying down for bed and I didn't think there was any obvious reason for it like the dust.
I'm torn about taking the maintenance med because it's my symptoms aren't terrible. It says that it is a corticosteroid, and I have been on prednisone for crohn's flares numerous times. My concerns are about how this inhaled steroid is going to affect me. Does it cause the same risks and side effects as an oral steroid? They also mentioned rinsing the mouth to prevent a fungal infection...which got me to wondering if it would increase the risk of a fungal infection in the airways or lungs???? Should I just stick with the albuterol on those occasions that it's needed and wait on the other drug to see if my asthma ever gets worse?
It seems to be an allergy related asthma rather than exercise induced. Many years ago I had asthma only when I was around cats, then after avoiding cats it seems to have gone away. Now dust seems to be my main problem (so I avoid housework that will stir up dust). The cat I have now doesn't seem to cause problems and I limit my actual contact with her. Anyway, I would appreciate your thoughts or helpful hints.
Thanks!
