Contact Dermatitis--Would it Naturally Clear up without drugs?

If you get an allergic contact dermatitis --- the usual red itchy rash all over the body, etc. --- the doctor always prescribes Prednisone to help kick it out of your system.
MY QUESTION -- If a person took NO DRUGS at all --- just treating the itching with a lotion or something --- would the outbreak just naturally "run its course" in time and eventually disappear? Or is the Prednisone absolutely necessary and essential to getting rid of the outbreak/body rashes?

That is, does a person's body eventually defeat and get rid of the ugly, itchy outbreak on its own... or, without drugs, would the problem just persist and spread and never go away, slowly taking over your entire body?

Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated...

Prednisone is valuable in getting the reaction over and done with.

I use free and clean washing products such as Purex and Bounce and also take a antihistamine each day. When I have a flare up, I take two a day. This antihistamine is Allergra, a script, which now comes out in generic.

Prednisone is pretty heavy duty and I avoid that because I am allergic to drugs.

I was on Prednisone for 13 days, and -- while there was considerable improvement -- there are STILL various areas of itchy "rash" located throughout the body. This is discouraging because I thought Prednisone was a very powerful drug that should COMPLETELY knock something out of your system within 10 days or so.

I do not want to go back on the prednisone. Will my body eventually knock the rest of this problem out? Is it "running a course", as does a flu or other bodily ailment?

I am getting allergy tested next week. How can they test somebody for EVERYTHING? There are so many things this could have caused this.

I was tested on 53 things in one sitting. They used my back and arms for test sites.

There is a group of things which are called known allergens. Allergens is ancient Greek for harmless. However allergic people constantly react to these items and so basically you are fighting this stuff 24/7.

You will be tested for known allergens.

As a result of this your immune system is low and you can pick up viruses, etc. My major problem is respiratory and therefore I am aware of this problem. Perhaps this will not be true in your case.

I think Prednisone is helpful because of its anti-inflammatory effect. But we knew that this is a steroid drug and this has a side effect if taken for a long time. When I had a skin allergy before, I used to take prednisone but I stopped since it has a temporary effect. I just make sure that I always clean my skin and apply moisturizer to prevent drying and drink plenty of fluids. I also avoid the triggering factors that will cause my allergy to appear. I also had a session with Paul (YM practitioner) where he performed corrections to me through a Yuen method. After a short session, the itchiness and rashes are all gone and what a relief it is. A specific point on my arm that I concentrated on while he is doing the corrections disappeared instantaneously and even though I tried to restimulate it later, just to test myself, it was all gone!

It depends on how bad the rash is and what it's from. A mild rash will go away on its own, but some need the prednisone.

I get a tiny touch of poison ivy and it "spreads" throughout my body. To get rid of it I need prednisone. I used to not have any sensitivity to poison ivy, but once I got a scratch and it got under my skin. Now I get it BAD! I have to use plastic gloves when gardening now.
