My daughter is going to be 16 this year so it's not like I can hold her down to take her allergy meds! She goes every two weeks for allergy injections and they seem to work but this spring the pollen and mold are very high. She is miserable and is getting by on Benedryl. But for some reason, she HATES allergy meds such as Zyrtec and Allegra. Oh and if it's a nasal spray, forget it! She digs in her feet all the more. When her allergies get really bad, she has a lymph node under her jaw that swells. I've tried talking sense into her but she refuses to take meds. She says that Allegra is hard for her to swallow and Zyrtec makes her groggy the next day. Clariten does absolutely nothing for her.

Anyone else have a stubborn kid???? Is there anything natural that would help her? My SIL mentioned raw honey but my daughter shied away from that idea because my SIL made the mention that it tastes horrible.

I have a stubborn daughter too...her issues are intolerance to certain foods.

As for the honey, it must be honey made locally, to help with allergies.  Does she like tea?  A friend told me you make a paste of honey and cinnamon, put it in and the tea and it's delicious.

She's not a real big tea person but she doesn't mind it. I might give that a go....now! To see if I can find any local honey! :) Thanks Deb.

Sherry - Perhaps I am a stubborn person as well. I have been told so many times that I need to take an allergy pill daily and I just ignore the advice. It would probably help me quite a bit since my sinuses are always so congested but honestly, I am too cheap and broke to buy claritin or allegra. Sad, huh? I'd rather be stuffed up and miserable than spend $20. It would be fine if it were $20 once but every month?? I already spend so much on medication. Even with insurance, I think I've spent $1000 this year. :( Maybe I will buy a pack and give it a try, if it really helps, the $20 won't seem like such a loss.

I eat raw honey and I haven't noticed it helping my symptoms. Perhaps I will try some in my tea tonight and I will let you know if I see any improvement. Have you ever tried to get her to use a netti pot? Everyone tells me those can really help. It looks uncomfortable to me.

oh and raw honey tastes REALLY good! Your SIL lied!

You could try generic zyrtec sold by walmart. I pay $23 for three months worth.

I wonder if I can get this at the drugstore for reasonable cost. Walmart is a bit of a hike from here.

The honey must be local in your area, can't be just any honey. The local honey covers your local allergens.
