Frequent Severe reactions to medications, need direction

I am new to this site and hoping someone has some suggestions.  I have been experiencing allergic reactions that begin with a strong rash on my wrists, then stomache and chest then up to my neck and throat. If I dont catch that and begin double dose of bendry and steroids, it will progress to anaphalytic reaction. 

 

This is to a wide variety of things, suncreens, bugsprays, over the counter things such as Robitussin, Cepacol throat spray, tylenol, ibuprofen, and prescription medications; sulfa meds, cipro, levaquin.  AT this time, my doctors hate to see me come in sick, because they aren't comfortable prescribing me anything.  Antibiotics are always accompanied by a prescription for steriods and epipen pack.

 

I can take tylenol and Ibuprofen for accident, pain or injury and be fine, however if i need it due to being sick, I seem to not have a tolerance for it and react.  So, I can take some things today, but tomorrow can not.  I believe that I can help my body prevent things with proper diet and a regiment of vitamins and supplements, but am wise enough to know that there are times when medication is necessary and don't refuse it.  However, the medications are getting fewer and fewer that my doctors are willing to prescribe.

 

I am currently in the middle of this.  I began Cipro two days ago for a severe kidney infection and reacted 24 hours later.  I started Prednison and benedryl last night, and my doctor wanted me off everything else today to give my system a rest.  Tomorrow I will try another antibiotic.  I should know by Sunday or Monday if we have success this round.

 

Hs anyone ever experienced anything like this?  Any suggestions for where to even begin with this?  My doctors are at a loss.

I have no suggestion for you because I am in the same boat! I am allergic to a great deal of things and my doctors cringe when I come in sick as well. I break out in rashes that really have no rhyme nor reason.

But I have a theory...when we are sick, our immune system is ramped up, on the defensive and if one has a sensitivity, it can increase the reaction. Allergies are a "confused" immune system. Our immune system mistake benign things as invaders and goes on the defensive. But with an injury, there usually isn't a body wide immune reaction.

I don't have as severe reactions like you but I can relate....unfortunately :(

You might have an autoimmune disease. Have your doctor check you for autoimmune diseases. A simple blood test called ANA can tell you if you have one.

Thanks to both Red_34 (your reply actually was encouraging because I feel like my doctors think I must be making this up.)

And Joy, thanks. It is something that I have been wondering about. Oddly, my daughter has Fibromyalgia, and granddaughter (2) has an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder. Basically no immunity at all. It wouldnt surprise me if I am experiencing something along the same lines. Should I request this of my General MD or go to a specialist. (And if a specialist, a Rheumotologist / Allergist & Immunology?)

Your MD can run the test, but a rheumotologist can diagnose you for sure.
