Air purifiers for sinus and allergies

Hi Everyone!  I'm new to this site so forgive me if this topic has already been brought up...

I have suffered from sinus infections and allergy attacks pretty much  my whole life, I'm 39 now...  as I get older it's only getting worse and it doesn't help that I live near the mountains where a lot of dust accumulates in my house...  I recently purchased a HEPA Air Purifier as I was told by my allergy Dr. that this would help (along with the allergy pills and nasal sprays that I have pretty much accepted this is my way of life)  Is anyone familiar with air purifiers to help with allergies and do they help???  Thanks for the feedback!

According to a TV clip yesterday a room air purifier is only good in a single room with the doors shut and running on high. Humidifiers was also recommended to help with the effects of dryness.

Cleaning carpets and changing the furnace filter with a pleated one, not the blue ones, both every 3 months was recommended. Carpets are fine as long as they are cleaned. They trap a lot of dirt.

Personally, I use the 4 inch pleated furnace filters and change 2 - 3 times a year. My furnace runs on low power (about the amount of electricity of a 100 watt bulb) 24/7. My housekeepers can tell when I have changed the filter because there is less dust. I have a good humidifier on my furnace, which I only turn off in wet season - spring around here.

I have a room air purifier. It's good to leave on in the bedroom all of the time. We use one in the house air system too.
The hard part is keeping up when to replace the filters and the cost.

There are some companies that sell the kind with washable filters that are based on ionized air.

There are also reviews on air purifiers so do your homework on them before buying one and also look at the costs of filters, if you can wah the filter that might save money. And Look into humdifiers as mentioned above. Hope you can find something that will work good for you.
