My neighbor moved into a 4 unit house where all tenants smoke and all tenants have multiple cats. She liked the apartment so she decided to move in and get everyone else here to change their lifestyles.
She goes through coughing fits when she thinks someone is smoking and sometimes, her coughing fits go on for hours even when no one is smoking.
She is a scuba diver and seems to be fine with that.
Her mother is a smoker who smokes in the house who she visits frequently.
She says that sometimes she can handle the smell of smoke and other times she can not. She says that she's been to the emergency room 3 times because of the smokers in this building and yet, she keeps her windows wide
open even in extreme temperatures. She slams the windows closed after coughing really loud out the window to make a statement. Then she yells out the window saying "YOU STOP SMOKING NOW, THIS IS HARASSMENT, I'M CALLING THE POLICE!!!"
The lease does not prohibit smoking in the building or out the window. Only one tenant smokes out the window, the others smoke outside. She does not complain about
the people smoking outside even though the smoke travels closer to her window from outside than it does from the upstairs apt. where smoke is blown out the window.
She didn't start her coughing fits until 2 months after she moved in.
She places unbearable and overwhelming air fresheners in the common area hallway b/c she says she's allergic to the cats and doesn't like the way they smell.
My question is: is it possible that if her asthma is so bad that she goes into reap. distress from the smell of smoke 20 feet away, yet she can handle the smoke sometimes and not on other occasions? She can be a scuba diver and visit her mother who smokes in the house w/no problems?
Is my neighbor faking her asthma in order to get out of her lease or to manipulate other tenants?
