Mold sensitivity increased in Florida?

Hi Everyone,

I'm usually in the fibromyalgia forum but I do deal with allergy and asthma symptoms.

My question is my fiance and I would like to move down to southwestern Florida but I have bigtime sensitivities to mold. With all of the waterways in that area do those of you who are familiar with this area think I would have a difficult time?

I don't live in Florida, but did grow up in Houston, Texas. Both areas are extremely humid, and high humidity leads to high ambient mold counts. I declined to retire in Florida at least in part because of the humidity and allergy potential.

You can watch mold counts for various parts of the country on Weather.com or any other weather site on the internet; this can give you a good idea about any area you're thinking of.

I looked at Weather.com and it shows a map for mold spores around the country. Does the mold count go up in southwest Florida in the summer months?

I'm allergic to mold but the few times I went to Florida I never had an issue. It can get extremely humid there though, especially in the summer and it makes it a little hard to breathe.

Can I ask what part of Florida you visited?

I do find it a little bit difficult to breathe when it's humid in the summer up here. But I do do better being around large bodies of water. If we move to Florida we would be close to the gulf.

We were in Panama City Beach and another time in Orlando.

Did you feel better in Panama City near the water than you did in Orlando?

I find when I'm near a larger body of water my allergies and asthma symptoms improve.

Hmm now that you mention it, yes I did feel better by the gulf than in Orlando. When we stayed in PCB we were in a condo on the waterfront. It was super hot but I think the breeze off the gulf helped. In Orlando, it was hot as well but very humid which made it a bit hard to breathe.

When we stayed in Orlando we decided to go to Daytona and spent the day at the beach and my allergies became better - although we all got sunburnt! Lol

Red, yes, I do better by the water too. I heard that allergens don't travel well across the water.

And there's nothing like that fresh breeze from the water.
