Effect of asthma in marriage life

Hi i am stella. i am female and 28 yrs old and i had vsd surgery in my childhood, since 20 years before and my fiance is doctor and he is 28 yrs old. last week i meet my fiance and he said he have asthma problem , everyday he want trigger, after he said about this diseases i am very much afraid because after 2 month i get marriage, and i think this diseases effect on my marriage and sex life. i have no idea and i am really mentally disturb what can i do? really this disease effect on my marriage and sexual life and any future problem..... please give me any advise and suggestion asap.............

Your fiance should learn how to keep his asthma in control and once he does that there should be no affect on your marriage or sex life. He may need to take allergy medicine or a special inhaler to keep his asthma from flaring. He should not have to use his rescue inhaler every day.

Hi kazbern,

I have had asthma my entire life, and have been married for 40 years.  If you and your future husband love each other, asthma will not cause a problem for you.  I agree that he ought to work on his asthma control, but if he's a doctor, I expect he is fully aware of the importance of medical treatment.

There are many things that will create problems and stresses for your marriage, and asthma may be one of them.  Marriage takes work and commitment. If you're ready to work a your relationship, and have a loving, committed relationship with your future husband, you'll do just fine.

That reminds me of my first serious relationship - I have asthma, and he was so afraid to do anything, at the slightest cough he'd grab my inhaler LOL. He would ask me "are you ok?" and I would have to convince him I am ok. It took him a couple months to get out of his system I didn't need to be babied and I am a big girl and will let him know if I need help. We deviced a communication system if I was in an attack, I was still able to tell him what I needed. Care and love and patience. It shouldn't affect your soon to be marriage, if you don't let it affect you.

I hope it won't really affect your marriage. You solve it together, take meds and inhalers, always clean the house to avoid dust and allergens that may trigger asthma, use an air purifier as much as possible. Anyway your husband to be is a doctor so he probably know how to handle it. i think it should bond you more together because you would take care of each other.. goodluck!

I've had asthma all my life as well and we have a child, as long as he knows how to control the asthma then things should work out fine for the both of you. Your getting married "In sickness and health" do you care so little for him to let this get between you, it should'nt and you should not call it quits but you should work through this...If you can work through this then your marriage will succeed....
