possible link between asthma, IBS and PND?

Has any one heard of a link,between Asthma, IBS and PND. I suffer with Asthma and I am told I have IBS (after many tests), I also have PND -which wakes me at night choking. I have heard there may be a link. I just want to feel well again - I am so tired of feeling nauseous and ill all the time - help???

Sometimes asthma is triggered or made worse by gastric esophageal reflux, which can certainly come with IBS. Post-nasal drip is a common trigger for asthma, and asthma is often worse at night.

Take a proton pump inhibitor and follow the advice on managing GERD (found on many websites including this one), take an antihistamine to reduce sinus congestion, use a saline sinus lavage like NeilMed to help keep your sinus passages open and use a daily inhaled medicine to keep your asthma under control. You might find that taking albuterol a few minutes before bed will prevent the choking sensation you are experiencing.

Thank you - I am grateful for any input and will try suggestions - this is making me so miserable and life is so difficult when feeling so awful.

One additional thought - people with asthma are sometimes told they have "hyperactive airways." I don't think you'll find anything about this anywhere, but to me it has to do with how quickly my bronchial tubes will spaz out if I aspirate even the smallest drop of saliva or PND.

If this happens while I'm eating I will be unable to breathe at all until I can relax my bronchial tubes. At bedtime, during allergy season, the smallest amount of PND will leave me coughing instantaneously. I always use my albuterol before bed at these times of the year.

There may be some hope for you-- there is a Rx pill called Singulaire (which helps reduce cytokines/ leukotrienes, basically an anti-inflammatory for your respiratory system)

Also, good antihistamines combat post-nasal drip, and Mucinex/ (guaifenisen) thins out mucous, making it easier to expel. And Zantac works immediately for nausea, doesn't need to be taken daily, like PPI drugs.

It is obvious asthma is caused by the same inflammatory issues as IBD's, and this is seen by how quickly prednisone improves an asthma crisis.... your health does depend on getting the asthma in check, because uncontrolled, it can cause enlarged heart, lung scarring, and even worse... good luck, and good health to you
