Spring Allergies and Bee Pollen

With widespread food allergies everywhere there are some of us who can go into serious anaphylactic shock after eating certain foods. Bee pollen can be a problem especially if you are allergic to bee stings.

Having said that, for the first time in years I began to experience severe allergies and lots of sneezing. Probably because I recently moved to a new area of the country with unfamiliar and exotic flora. So I bought some LOCAL bee pollen from a health food store. BLAM! All of my allergy symptoms immediately ceased within an hour or two after eating a spoonful. Another couple of spoonfuls the next day and absolutely no allergy symptoms for weeks now.

I heard that bee pollen was good for allergies but I wasn't sure if it matters whether the pollen needs to be from local bees and flowers to be effective. But I know for sure that the local stuff works.

If you aren't allergic to bee stings and you want to try local bee pollen to help with spring allergies then first eat only a couple of grains of the stuff to see if it is safe for your particular body chemistry.

I wonder if bee pollen is safe and effective

I consider bee pollen to be a food like honey, not a drug. So it should be safe unless you are allergic to bee stings. I posted this on another forum and others jumped with stories about its effectiveness. I told some acquaintances about it and they too found it effective.

But since I am posting on this allergy forum, with people who are super sensitive to allergens, I recommend only taking a granule or two of the stuff to see how your body reacts. Gradually more and more until you feel safe to eat a spoonful. A spoonful or two seems to be what ends the allergies. The hard part is trying to find local bee pollen as opposed to stuff shipped from the other side of the continent.

But you cannot ever be too safe so maybe you should wait to see what your allergist says.

Bee pollen seems to work. I am not allergic to bee stings so I gave it a shot. I started out eating only a grain or two, then waiting 1/2 hour. Gradually more and more until I was able to accommodate a spoonful. My allergies then just disappeared.
