Coughing up Clear Phelgm every 10 minutes

I had a liver cleanse which ended on Wednesday. On Thursday, at my doctor's appt. she suggest I try Align for my bloating (distended stomach-looks 9 mos pregnant), gas, flatulence, etc. I have suffered with constipation for over 15 years but none of the over 6-8 doctors have done anything.

For almost three (3) years I had been given URSO 250 and Dexilant for a liver problem I do not have and the Dexilant, 60 mg, caused trauma to my body and increase my pain by 10X. The doctor kept me on all of this for a long time, ignoring my complaints. My inability to climb stairs, coupled with the pain is why I ended up with an emergency room. The conclusion, the medicine I am taking for a medical problem I do not have. This has been reaffirmed by another doctor.

Now I am trying to heal. It is very difficult. Now, I take my Tirosent once a day, vitamins (body was depleted), and Align. I had been trying to get this mucus build up out of my throat. I lived with the possibility of choking; not sleeping well some nights.

I started taking the Align on Friday. On Tuesday, I was coughing up hulks of phelgm every 10 minutes. All day, could not get out of the house. My throat is sore, body hurts, etc. Today is Wednesday, I am coughing up hulks of phelgm again. Have not been able to leave the house. This mucus in my throat has been there for over a year. I have decided to stay with this for this week and hope for the best.

Thanks for your reply. I used a Cleanse that I have used before: Lemon, Grapefruit, Olive Oil and Epsom Salt. 2-3 days before the cleanse, I drinked lots of organic apple juice to soften all matter inside.

The gastro doctor I had is the one who treated me for a liver problem I do not have and never had according to two other doctors.

I now have an internist. I told her about the cleanse after the fact. I have been bloated with a distended stomach, gas and flatulence since taking the URSO and Dexilant medicines for a liver problem I do not have and acid reflux. I think the Dr. suggested Align as a method to hopefully reduce or eliminate these problems.

I have been very ill with the constant coughing. If I use medicine to stop the coughing of phelgm; I may not be able to get rid of this mucus build up. So I have suffered these last few days, only taking aspirin for my headaches. I am still trying to get healed from the other medication. I am trying not to take any additional medications at this time.

Today, I have not coughed very much, but my chest is sore and throat has healed nicely. The mucus is much each time and so thick. My body is very weak and I am fatigued. I have been out of bed for 4 1/2 hours. I am getting ready to go back to bed.

I believe you are correct. My stomach has been irritated for a long time-years. This mucus was probably produced from that irritation as a way to protect me....

Why were you on Dexilant in the first place? Do you have gastric reflux? Did the gastro doc do endoscopy or barium swallow to look for evidence of esophageal irritation? Endo would be the way to see the healing in the esophagus. Stomach acid is one thing (of many) that causes lots of mucus - see the GERD forum.

What medicine are you using to stop the phlegm? Antihistamines can make it thicker and harder for the body to remove naturally. Have you been checked for allergies? That can be a big source or mucus too.

The enlarged abdomen is worrisome. The urso could have caused some of your symptoms, but since you're not taking it anymore ... What does the internist think? Is he looking at gas distension or is the problem solid like enlarged liver? This is way beyond my experience. I'm glad you are seeing a doctor!

When I first saw Dr. Miller, I weighed 174. I went for constipation problem and acid reflux. Now I have a host of issues and have had for over 3-4 years now.
My final weight with him was 198, new stomach, new folds, thunder thighs, aching and painful.

My internist thinks it is air... at this time.

Dr. Miller over and over told me that I had to continue with the URSO 250 if I wanted to live for 10-15. ALL FOR A LIVER PROBLEM I DO NOT HAVE.

I had a very similar cough for 10 years. I even had the Nissen surgery as it was diagnosed as LPR. The coughing did not stop or change at all with surgery, or double doses of Dexilant and/or Omeprazole. I also took antibiotics on & off and Valtrex.

Turns out in my case the problem was caused by systemic Candida over growth & I was low in Vit. D & B12.

Its taken 2 months of Fluconazole & 5000 IU Vit D, B12 & eating yogurt twice daily. I am finally getting some relief. I had a fungus problem with my fingernails, should have noticed something then, anyway I'm finally feeling much better & cough has diminished greatly.

It's hard to get rid of a sinus infection, possibly, just possibly, what you might have, because the sinuses have very little blood circulation, so the antibiotics hardly get there. I mention this because you said yellow mucus. One doctor told me the only thing that works on sinuses is sulfa drugs.

I spent a couple of years going to ENT, pain doc, neurologist because of headaches caused by sinus infections. I would just get one stopped and another would crop up. One time it was some bug carried by little kids that was treated with Cipro and tetracycline. That bug just went on and on until it got hit with the right antibiotic. The ENT didn't believe I had infections until the neuro sent me for a head scan that showed it.

Now, to prevent infections from taking hold, I do sinus wash daily when I get the least mucus or stuffy nose. I like the NeilMed bottles to get a little pressure wash, although pressure is not advised by the TV docs.

Of course yellow mucus can be from lungs too. You can probably tell yourself, but if not DO see another doctor! If I let sinus infections go they end up in my lungs and I get really sick.

We sometimes just have to keep going and going (to the doctors) like the Energizer Bunny.
