Chronic under eye pain caused by allergies

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum. I didn't acquire allergies until five years ago. My allergies are severe and I also have allergic rhinitis. I take clarinex, singulair, pataday eye drops, azelastine nasal spray and also get allergy shots.

I was referred by my medical doctor to an ENT. He told me that my chronic under eye pain was not caused by my sinuses, they were clear and I did not have a polyp. I have noticed that the pain starts before it rains. I have a follow up appointment with my allergy doctor to discuss the ENT's findings. Does anyone suffer from under eye pain? What medication do you use to help with the pain?

What test did your doctor do to determine the sinus was open? If he just looked in your nose with a little scope and maybe did an x-ray he could have missed it. You needed an MRI, or maybe it's a CT, to see anything but bone and whether the tiny opening for the sinus looked unblocked.

I get sinus infections frequently. My best treatment has always been sinus wash with Neil Med bottle and saline. Antibiotics hardly get into the sinus tissue because there is poor blood flow there. Sinus wash is over-the-counter and cheap. Netti Pots don't give you any pressure and are sloppy. Small bottles just don't hold enough to do the job. My allergist and also my ENT give out the Neil Med bottles in the office.

There is one other thing that could cause pain in the sinus area under the eye (the maxillary sinus). An upper tooth can be causing a problem. They sometime stick right into the sinus. A tooth infection or just a long tooth root can cause pain. Have you seen your dentist recently? He could do an x-ray to eliminate that cause of pain.
