brittle asthma

I just be re-diagnised with having brittle asthma . and know very little about can anyone on hear tell me should I be worried about this form of asthma as my respiratory specilist said as long I giving the right right medication that I should be okay I was so close to be put into intensive care last week as I was admitted into my local hospital for a week and a day I am recovering now at home but still on steroids prgnisolone now one the reduce does was one 8 5mg tablets now one 6 for 5 days then five for 5 days and so on down to one for a 5 days I hope that some one on hear can hlep me to understand whet brittle asthma is for my partners sake as well thank you all for any help on the matter from james alexander

I googled it and it just means your asthma is unstable.

there are only a limited amount of asthma meds available. They put you on predisone to stabilize you.

but predisone is a catch 22 drug. it saves your life and it also can kill you...make sure you taper the drug, don't go off it all at once. and also, sometimes it takes longer to taper the lower you get. if you taper too fast you can rebound.

When it comes to tapering, listen to your body, not your doctor. Doctors want to get everyone off the drug fast. some don't tolerate a fast taper. Be sure to keep in touch with your doctor while you taper, because it is a life and death situation.... so if you have to taper more slower than the doctor originally said, that is fine...take your time. your body will tell you what you can handle and how fast.
