Hi guys, Hope you're all well.
I'm gonna try to be brief - 'tho i believe it'll get a little bit long, so sorry for that - about
my history. I'm not sure but i think that i started to have chronic coughs in 2014, 'though it seems i already had it before but i didn't pay any attention to it until it started to get worst. In the end of 2015 i went to see a ENT doctor and after trying 40mg of Pantoprazole twice a day for 2 months and doing all the GERD related diet, including sleeping with three pillows i still continued with the issue. The doctor dismissed me saying it wasn't a GERD's CC, i've gotten really irritated as i thought he didn't really examined my issue in deph and surprise, after a second visit to another ENT doctor, he diagnosed me with Barret's Esophagus, i mean, what the hell about
these "professional" "doctors" that seem to not care about
the patient at all and only poorly focus on the symptons???
And so i've been recommended to a Nissen surgery as i had a Hiatal hernia as well. Then i've done it and followed up with alimentary diet and Nexion. The heartburns that i had were gone as was a little bit of the globus sensation in my throat ('tho not entirely). The CC hasn't stopped at that point and so i went to see a pulmonologist. He actually thought that i would have Post-Nasal Drip due to Sinus or/either GERD and then i went doing chest scan (which was ok), laryngoscopy (ok), face radiography (ok) and then he thought it was allergies and prescribed omnaris and nasojet (nasal spray). It kept going like this on and on until i suggested if it couldn't be Sensory Neuropathic Cough (SNC) and he said i was stupid on reading "non-scientific medicine texts" on the internet and should trust utmostly on the ****ing doctor, ok, so i never said anything else at that point and the "doctor" said that he didn't know the cause after that, nice one "doc".
And i've gone to the otaryngologist, the same happened and this one didn't even know about
SNC, right! There i went to another one a little bit later, and this one said i had some allergies giving me advice to try treating that. So i've done all the allergies steps, so no Sinus, no post-nasal drip, no GERD ('tho i'm no really sure if it may not be Silent Reflux, 'tho if it is the cause wouldn't Nissen and the standard alimentary therapy work?), and she suggested it could be SNC and prescribed Carbamazepine or Tegretol (btw is this one good as Gabapentin and/or Amitryptiline???)
Afterward i've gone to another pulmonologist and she prescribed Oximax for possible Cough Variant Asthma (CC without asthma's classic symptons). I still haven't seen any improvements on my CC and that kept me wondering...
I do have some very occasional "tickling" sensations in my throat before coughing and it seens to provoke some cough bouts when i sing, breath cold air ('tho not always) with little clothing, but it doesn't seen to be the same level of throat hypersensibility as i've read on other victims of SNC.
So what would be your most trusted diagnosis for SNC? Considering that i have a veeeeery subtle occasional wheezing almost not perceptible, mucus hypersecretion (which can be Silent Reflux or GERD or even Asthma) and related) and some daily occasional throat clearing?
There is one more important element. I lived in my grandmother's house for about
one year and a half in 2014 and she was/is a heavy smoker. After that my CC worsened A LOT, so could i have developed Chronic Bronchitis (COPD) as being a non-passive smoker? And is it compatible to develop Chronic Bronchitis with a normal chest scan?
i'm suffering a lot 'cause i cough ALL DAY LONG and it stops a bit only when i'm sitting, not walking nor talking, getting worse when i start to do more strenuous exercises like walking.
I'm not sure if it's the cough causing the mucus or the other way around 'tho i'm suspecting that it's the mucus that's causing my CC as i sometimes spit out some mucus whilst coughing.
So symptons would be:
1- CC
2- Occasional Throat Clearing
3- Occasional Globus Sensation
4- White mucus hypersecretion
5- Occasional prickling/stinking sensation in throat
Any clue anyone? If anybody has been through any similar situation PLEASE i'd appreciate any insight
