Hello,
I've had chronic allergies for pretty much my entire life and I have them year round. Primarily I get sneezing, itchy/watery eyes, and a runny nose, but I also suffer from horrible sinus pain and pressure in my entire face (most noticeable behind/above my eyebrows and under my eyes/top of my cheekbones). Nothing helps much, although I do dutifully take my OTC Flonase, allergy medicine and sinus pain medicine (I've tried them all, but right now I'm using Cetrizine and Sudafed PE for sinus pain, which does seem to help a little depending on the day).
Around two months ago I suddenly developed ringing in my right ear. The pain was infrequent, but randomly throughout the day I would feel fluid suddenly shift deep in my ear and block out my hearing for a few minutes, especially when I laid down to sleep at night. I would also get random pressure that would be so intense that my eyes would water. Then my left ear started ringing as well.
I went to the doctor and she told me I had some fluid/redness in both ears and gave me an antibiotic to take for a week. After the week was up, however, I still had ringing, mostly just in my right ear (it's kind of hard to tell because the right one is so loud, but I believe my left one has pretty much stopped).
I just had an appointment at an ENT last Friday and they did a hearing test; my hearing came back normal and he also told me that I no longer have any fluid in my ears. He basically said his best guess was that I had some inflammation and he gave me a prescription for Prednisone, which I won't take because I've been on it multiple times in the past for Crohn's and absolutely hate it (and he pretty much said it probably wouldn't even do much anyways).
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? The ringing is driving me crazy. I've been experiencing a lot of dizziness/lightheadedness that I now believe is caused by my ear. The only thing I can think is that it's caused by my chronic sinus problems (especially since this spring has been horrible for my allergies) or inflammation like the ENT said.
Would it be worth it to use any sort of ear drops? See an allergist? Use a neti pot? Try a homeopathic treatment? I feel like I'm at the end of my rope and I'm not sure what to do!
Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
