Has anyone had adverse side effects from long term use of Flonase?

I've been taking Flonase for several months now due to a horrible allergy season. Within the past few months I started getting ringing in my ears which won't stop, even with the use of antibiotics. When I went to an ENT he just gave me steroids which I refuse to take.

I've been having severe dizziness and nausea lately so today I called off work. I noticed that my dizziness felt better this morning, but shortly after taking Flonase in the afternoon my dizziness and nausea had returned.

Is it just a coincidence? Or is it possible Flonase is causing these symptoms? My GP said it was safe to use Flonase every day but I've heard elsewhere that it's not good to use it for long-term so I'm starting to wonder if some of my symptoms are related to overusing Flonase.

Any insight is appreciated!

I have been using it for a year or so & it has helped me a great deal. I have not had any side effects at all. The symptoms you are describing I can't say what is the culprit but I think I would listen to the ENT. Your symptoms sounds like an inner ear thing. No one likes to take steroids, however, a short course should be fine.

Very likely it's a coincidence and not related to your use of Flonase. The amount of steroid in these nasal sprays is very low (micrograms), and from that low amount, even less is actually absorbed to the point it reaches other parts of the body.

Usually, if there are any side effects, they are confined to the nasal passages, and include things like increase of bloody nose, dry nose, possible fungal infection, things like that.

For what it's worth, I've been using Flonase (and/or other similar steroid nasal sprays) every day for about 15 years now with no side effects at all that I've noticed.

I go back and forth with my allergy meds all the time. Sometimes I swear they help, other times I think they exacerbate the problems. That said, I've been suspicious of Flonase myself. I don't have typical allergies. My nose rarely runs, and I don't sneeze often. I think my problems are deeper in my upper sinuses. I do get dizziness, ear ringing (may be age related), eye dryness, and headaches behind my eye, along with a stuffiness that isn't obvious unless I try to breathe deeply through my nose, particularly the right side. Recently I believe that either Zyrtec, or Flonase, or possibly both actually affected my vision. Oh, I'm editing to add fatigue.That's been a big problem, and I really think it's allergy related, and tied to the "stuffiness" in my head.

Anyway, sorry this is not exactly helpful, but I do think Flonase can cause some problems. If you google side effects, you'll find others in our club.

I have yet to latch onto something that truly works, other than maybe Sudafed Pain and Pressure (which I save for really bad days), which probably isn't something one should be taking daily. Most days I just muddle through.
