These are really old posts, but I am trying to find information about these crazy "sores in my nose". I had a dr diagnosis them as allergic rhinitis one time. I really don't know of much that will help. I guess I will try the antibiotic cream mentioned above. I also get cold sores. I take Valtrex for the cold sores. It doesn't seem to help with the nose problem. I have read about auto immune problems and I have not been diagnosised with any. I MIGHT have fibromialga, but not a guaranteed answer from the doctor on that one either. If you have any thoughts on this let me know. Maybe it's allergies and no matter what I am going to keep getting them. I found the vitamen, mineral post interesting. Maybe I will look into that one. I have tried some Lysine in the past and had no luck.

I get sores from nasal steriods.

I have nose sores now from too much use of steroid nasal sprays(20 odd years). Made a hole in my septum that I didn't know about, and after
having a bad Cedar Pollen season ended up with a very sore and dry nose. Then the sores appeared. Used everything I could think of. Finally found an ENT who told me they were now infected. Using mupirocin now, but the scabs are driving me nuts. Anyone know of something that gets rid of these other than a saline based product. Those dry me out.

No, unless you rub vasaline on the inside.

Bactroban does clear them right up - it's really expensive though. Ask your doctor for a sample, if possible, to see if it will clear it up for you before getting a prescription.

Hi all,
February I did several Apartment inspections that had a LOT of mold in them. Not sure if this is the cause or not...seems a little coincidental. Since February I have been getting alternating sores in each nostril. One will get better, then the other one flares up. That one gets better then it goes back to the other side. It is so painful. I have tried everything mentioned here. I have an appointment with the Dr. on the 20th of Sept. When I saw Dr. last he said it was just allergies and prescribed an allergy medication. Didn't work. The antibiotic cream makes it worse. Now after so much time, my teeth are starting to hurt from it, as well as waking up with pains in my head resembling maybe an icepick going through?? Sores scab up for me too. Neosporin makes them so thick that the slightest wiggle of my nose makes them crack and bleed.

I'm a little nervous, since 3 lumps have also been found in my breasts, but my medical coverage was cutoff before I could get a biopsy. So no results from that. Oh brother. lol. what to do. Any feedback??

I noticed that mostly everyone listed illnesses and medications so I will follow suit.

So far, the lumps (which are not diagnosed as of yet, 2 were found on mammo in June, and the 3rd I found the other night)
about 9 herniated discs, and spinal disease too long to type here and I do not know how to spell it, Osteoarthritis.

Medications: Clonidine, Mobic, Vicodin or Suboxone which really helps the pain a lot more than the vicodin.

Hi ingodnito, welcome to Healingwell :) I have one important question for you.........what is more important, your life or money? The reason I ask is because if your breast lumps turn out to be cancerous, what use is it to try and save money???? I know you don't have health insurance but please, please get in there to have them biopsied. See if you can set up a payment plan of some sort. Many doctor offices are willing to work with you.

As for the sores in your nose, it's good that you are getting in to have that checked out. I don't know if it can be from the mold or not, it depends on the type of mold found. I'm sure you've heard of black mold? This is the more severe form and it can cause many toxic health conditions. Good luck and keep us updated ok?

Hi Sherry, Thanks for responding. I will continue my search for a place that may be willing to help me with the biopsies. Unfortunately where I live it is a "wealthy" town and so far I have not had any luck with that. My pain doctor alone is $164 just to walk in the door. I'm on low payments of disability so a payment plan probably will not be feasible for me either since every dime goes to a bill or food. I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic for my situation. I do fear that because when they were first detected that it may already be too late, since the 3rd one appeared not too long after. But we'll see. Thank you for your feedback, and concern. I do appreciate it.

In regards to the mold/nose sore situation, it was/is black mold in the apartments. A major infestation, that still needs to be dealt with but I am not there anymore. I need to call the County. Owners have been bandaid-ing it. Not really fixing. I've been effected by it once before. Its nasty stuff. I wore a mask, but the masks are not 100% as far as being protective against spores etc. I've read some things about nose cancer which has me a little concerned too considering my other health issues.

I was having the same inside the tip of my nose sore the last three weeks. I tried the Neosporin and Polysporin seperately which gave limited improvement that didn't last. One of the answers here inspired me to try combining elements of treatment. Last week I mixed 50% Neosporin with 50% Bag Balm (actually a poor man's generic Udderly Smooth at the Dollar Tree) and apply with Q-tip a couple times a day. Works great for me! The Bag Balm provides a longer lasting and perhaps deeper skin penetration moisturizer and the antibiotic ointment goes with it and takes care of the infection. I had nothing to loose and am so pleased with the results. Also the tip of my nose feels so much better (younger?? - I am 51;-). Really, I am not joking about the tip of my nose feeling more subtle to the touch. 

I did try Udderly Smooth by itself for a day or so and did not notice a real improvement. You might also try it with Vitamin E oil/cream as I think they are also a good skin penetrating moisturizer.

I HAVE A SORE IN MY NOSE ITS LIKE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE TO THE TIP AND IT HURTS AND IT ANNOYING AND MAKES IT HARD TO BLOW MY NOSE IT BLEEDS ITS SO IRRTAING THAT I HAVE THE URGE TO PICK IT AND IT BLEEDS DO U HAVE AN SUGGESTIONS ON HOW I CAN HEAL IT MY MOM SAYS USE A QTIP AND SOME VASELINE AND PUT IT IN THE NOSE WILL THAT HELP

By all means, do NOT pick the scab. It can open the sore in your nose and make it more susceptible to staff infections. Leave the scab alone, use the vaseline on the sore and let it heal naturally. Also, you can try using a saline nasal spray to help keep things moisturized in there to ease any discomfort.

Hi all:
I am a new member and can`t quite find the correct subjecarea to post this but here goes:
I have been taking Zyrtec for seasonal and environmental allergies. I have noticed that I get very sore, crusty nostrils and my doctor told me that this is a side effect of Zyrtec. because autumn is a hi-allergy season for me, I switched to Claritin. Same problem. It is so bad now that if I even take any of these drugs for one day, I have a sore crusty nose for several days.
What the heck CAN I take for my allergies or what CAN I take to prevent this annoying and uncomfortable side effect?

I don't know about the lupus thing and not for sure if that is the cause of everyones, but my doctor suggested saline gell and not to use the saline spray because it would dry u up around the nose and the gell moistened. I also use Claratin D the 24 hour stuff that you get behind the counter. Some of you could of blowed your nose to hard at one point and your inner ear could be causeing these problems if your ear seems to be cloged all the time you need to see the doctor on that part as well which could be a simple fix, but should be looked at. Don't just think that you have lupus. Your nose is a very sticky situation and may be needed to look at by a professional nose doctor and have x-rays done you may have it cloged up with debree from pollen or whatever and may need to see one of those nose specaltist. Just dont assume it will get better if it does not use your judgement and may have to ask for a consult or just go and see a nose spec. and have them to look at it which could be good news a simple fix.

I blew my nose a little while ago and got a fair amount of blood. I've been anxiety ridden for about an hour and a half now thinking I'm MRSA+ and a carrier of it. This forum has made me feel a little better. I've been looking up everything on MRSA freaking myself out when I decided to just look up nose sores. My nose has been bothered, dry and hurting for some time and I sneeze A LOT. At least 30-50 times a day, absolutely no exaggeration. Does anyone know if that's more to do with MRSA or more to do with general airborne allergies? I can't really buy a humidifier at the moment. I'm going to try everything else suggested here though. I guess I'm just seeking some peace of mind. There's not much information on nasal MRSA carrier symptoms for me to compare mine to.

Have you tried saline washes?
I'd also go see the doctor to get checked out.
Nasal sores are also common sign of autoimmune problems.

Hi I also have lupus and suffer from nasal sores and scabes. However, I don't believe they are related.  I suffer from allergies too.  I nose get sores and scabes during the winter months, when the indoor heat is turned on. I was diagnosed with lupus when I was 29 years old and I am soon to be 54 years old.  Through the years my flare ups have been discoid sores in my head, mouth, ears, hands, chest, arms and back.  I've been blessed that my face has not been affected to this day.  The nasal sores comes from dry air and probably contacted an infection (such as staph), which is probably why the sores and scabes keep coming back.  I use plain water and a OTC antibotic oniment and it does the trick.  During Spring, Summer and part of fall I have no problems with my nose.  I hope this helps.

Xlear nasal rinse is excellent for both allergies and bacterial nasal sores. The Xylitol helps to prevent bacteria from sticking in the nose and creating an infection.

Also, one way to add more humidity to your home is to take a pan and fill it mostly full of plain water and put it on the stove. Bring it to a boil and let it boil uncovered for 10 minutes.

If you really want to humidify your nose, put a towel over your head and tent it over the boiling water and inhale the steam for a few minutes - but be careful not to burn yourself!

Hi I'm new here.  I also suffer from sores in my nose.

No allergies, no auto-immune issues.

My doctor diagnosed it as a recurring cold sore.

He put me on Valtrex (generic equiv) and it really helps clear them up.

I only skimmed this thread so I hope I'm not giving repeat advice.

I have chronic sinusitis. I get chronic sinus infections also due to a open sore in my nose.

I know this is gross but I want to tell my story:
When I was 18-20 I did drugs. I snorted pills.
By the time I quit I had a sore in my right nostril.
I have OCD and anxiety, so I tend to pick at things. So I started picking the scab in my nose. I had at least 3 nose bleeds a day from the time I was 21-25. When I was 25 my husband took me to get acrylics on my nails to make then thicker so as to keep me from mutilating the inside of my nose and other sores. It worked. My nose bleeds decreased to about only once a month. But I still have sores in my nose. It runs from the upper tip all the way back about an inch. I've lost all the hair on that side of my nose.

I'm 27 now and my sinusitis is getting worse and my nose hurts just to the touch. I went to a doctor because my sinus pressure built up so bad my under eyes turned black as kohl. And the pressure was unbearable. I got prescribed amoxicillin and a nasal steroid spray. The first day I had a big nosebleed before I even sprayed the spray. I waited 4 hours to spray so it would clot and I wouldn't get it in my blood stream. It's been 9 days of spraying 2x a day and taking the antibiotics. I go by the instructions the doc gave me of how to spray to get it into my sinus's. I can feel it going into my left cavity. But my right one,the bad one, it doesn't seem to be getting into the sinus cavity.

I'm worried I have ruined my septum and whole nasal passage by my ugly habits of past. Lately my right nostril has been bleeding during the night when I sleep. I've ruined at least 4 pillows. My nosebleeds aren't the normal bleeds either. They are massive and can last up to 3 hours or so at times. Once when I was 21 I had one so bad it bled all day so much I almost passed out before my aunt found me crumpled on the floor of my kitchen holding a soaked towl of blood. She took me to the doc and he sealed it with some type of liquid.

Usually my nosebleeds are post nasal so at times I don't realize I'm having one till I cough up blood.

Should I think about just having a doctor cauterize the whole inside of my nose to stop the bleeding? I am a little stressed out.

In about 6 months I should have insurance to go to a ENT in my area. But I would like to be knowledgeable of everything so I don't look like a dunce.

Thank you. I know my post is forever long. But this is first time I have actually told my story ever. I usually hide that dirty habit form everyone.

I have had small sores on the inside of my nose for years. They are painful and right near the tip of my nose. After having them for years I have finally figured out the cause of them - food sensitivities! This might sound crazy, but if I eat anything with eggs in it I will get a sore on the left side of my nose. If I eat anything with gluten or dairy in it I get a sore on the right side. The only other symptom I get from foods is nasal congestion if I eat a lot of dairy. If I avoid eggs for a few days the sores will go away.

Hi! I am not absolutely sure what the ever present sore, a tiny open slit, just inside my right nostril, the only spot, is. Thought it might be a bacterial infection, then worried it might be viral, herpes? Now, I'm thinking allergies as my nose is running all the time and I am not feeling at all sick...!? Any helpful thoughts on how to know?

JanM, when my allergy/sinus is in full bloom I get the sores too. Constant runny nose keeps it irritated. I found that using kleenex ultra soft helped a great deal. Before this I was keeping my nose irritated by wiping my nose with tp or a paper towel whichever was the closest on hand. Maybe look at what you are wiping with.
