Beta Blockers and asthma

Hi im new to this forum.  I've posted on the heart and cardiovascular forum.  I've had asthma my whole life and i was JUST diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome.  I have been put on Atenolol, a beta blocker, and I was wondering if it has caused any one's asthma to worsen.  My asthma is moderate and i'm being monitored.  If anyone had any experince with Atenolol or any other beta blockers, I would appreiate any advice.

I have had asthma for years. I developed alot of PVCs and was placed on Inderal, another beta blocker. My asthma went nuts! I tried another beta blocker that I forget the name of and had the same thing happen. Not everyone with asthma will see a worsening on beta blockers but some will. I hope you have lots of success with the new medication and that your asthma remains calm!

How long were you on Inderal before your asthma got worse? I've only been on Atenolol for a couple of days and I haven't noticed much difference in my symptoms.

I had a problem with my asthma that required a trip to the ER after my second dose of Inderal. If you haven't had any changes in symptoms by now, you likely won't.

I would call my doc. Beta blockers are not recommended for asthmatics. Look it up on the net, speak to a pharmacist. My doc wouldn't give it to me. Tried an ace inhibitor and it gave me GERD, so now I use a calcium blocker.

yes i was on propranolol for some years and developed asthma and tinnatus. my mother on atenalol also has shortnes of breath, tinnatus and dizzy spells. suppose its weighing up the benefits of one against another drug. i found the asthma disappeared when i had to go onto prednisone for plurisy after a reaction to erinchea. also plaquenil cured my tinnatis and dizzyness

I have just been put on beta blockers due to a recent PFO closure and I have started to get shortness of breath, I was thinking it was the cat but maybe its not. I will have to speak with my doctor....
