When i had an alergic reaction to **I took out your website per forum rules** I searched the whole web and found that the best way to figure out what worked the best was to go natural made and that really helped me to choose the best for me.

I have had that issue with all except for coppertone. Even those which are specifically allergy free I break out from all over in a horrible rash for days. I was lucky to find one at least that works hope you are able to find one that will work (I know coppertone is paba free...so maybe that was my issue in others)

  I recently went on vacation with a new sunscreen (Equate Sport Sunscreen with spf50). I have never been allergy to sunscreen or so I thought.  I came back from the vacation with red itchy rash. My daughters used the same sunscreen and nothing happened to them. 

  Rash only appeared in the areas where the sunscreen was applied.  I still have it as I write this.  I am taking Claritan.  The spots seem to have shrunk a little. 

   I have also been investigating the ingredients a little more carefully.  Previously I have used a NO-AD brand with spf50 and Ocean Potion anti aging sunblock spf 30 and none of those brands gave me a reaction such as the one I have right now.

    The ingredient that might have done it would have to be Octocrylene.  I believe that the sunscreen applied in the shade would not have given a rash but that the sun reacting with the sunscreen and that particular active ingredient did it.  Sort of like a photodermititis.

   For some of the people on this forum who have mentioned water might have been the catalyst to the rash, the sun might have added as well to the contribution.

   For now, I am itchy and waiting for the rash to clear up before I try out my theory.

My 4 year old daughter has also developed an allergy to sunscreen, we have tried them all and none of the work. Only one didn't bother her Invisible Zinc but here in my country its expensive for a 100g tube. But it works. Zinc sticks irritated her as they have the same chemical in as sunscreen. Hope this helps a few people. smilewinkgrin

I figured out that my kids are allergic to sunscreen over 5 years ago. Ever since then I've been on the hunt for a good organic sunscreen. I finally found one and I absolutely love it! It's made by soleo organics. If you go to soleoorganics.com You will see the picture and all the information about this sunscreen. I usually shop around online until I find the best deal on it. But it works great, and no allergies or reactions from any member of my family.

Hi, I was a cosmetician and have severe allergies incl. a lot of skin problems and I've had problems with sun screen over the years. A lot of you seem to be experimenting with different ones so I'll tell you what I know, hope it helps some of you. I haven't gone past drugstore brands so there's lots more out there I'm sure.

There are two main types of sunscreen; chemical that breaks down when the UV rays hit your skin and barrier ones like zinc and titanium dioxide. I've used some hypo-allergenic brands like Marcelle. I like Vichy and Biotherm because it's got a great UVA screen ingredient and they've been easy on my skin. These will be "less-likely" to react but it always depends on what we're reacting to....! I've also used the physical barrier sunscreens (Neutrogena still has one I think). These will be thick and usually whitish on the skin but recently some companies have micronized the particles so it's less visible. These types bounce the UV rays off the skin instead of breaking down like the chemical ones so you can have less reaction-risk. As a woman, I've also had the problem of not wanting to look like a chalky freak and I found Avene has a sunscreen that looks like a cream foundation and a lip one that's got a bit of colour to it. These are both the physical type and works when I'm my most reactive.
