Does repeated infections of pneumonia every winter suggest Asthma?

yeah  ello, I was diagnosed with asthma in 2003. It was in the winter months and I was having severe coughing. I coughed up a huge amount of mucous. And this went on for months at a time. And I went to see my primary doctor. He listened to my symptoms through the months and in the past. I did have alot of chest colds as a kid. Had alot of sinus trouble as a kid. And had tightness in the chest also. The doctors then said nothing was wrong.

 Does anybody think these repeated pneumonia infections could of been what cut the cake for me to have asthma? my doctor listened to my chest when I went to see him when all this began. When he was listening to my lungs he said right away you have ASTHMA.. Why was this not diagnosed when I was a child? any reasons people can think of? I know most people on here are not doctors. Not necessarily.It sounds like the infections are not being got rid of leaving enough to start another infection.I had that problem told My Dr we need to ge ALL the infection.He have me a shot of Rocephin followed up with 10 days of cipro.Haven't had any more infections since.I fo have Asthma.

Asthma cannot cause pneumonia, but pneumonia can set off an asthma attack. Have you had a pneumonia shot in the past 5 yrs? If not, you might want to ask your MD about one. If you have a cold, you might want to use a humidifier in order to keep your secretions thin so you can cough them up easily. If you don't mind me asking, what is your age? Adults who never experienced asthma as a child, can develop asthma due to gastric reflux, continuous sinus infections, etc. If you are an adult, you can ask your MD for a spirometry test which will determine if you are truly asthmatic or allergic reactions causing asthma symptoms. :-) Thankyou,pegleg,snowylynne for all your advice. I am 31. I had a spirometer test done and it was 79%, then I was put on Advair Diskus, and my spirometer test after many months went up to 93%. I have gone to urgent care many times when I was having lots of coughing and breathing trouble and my peak flow numbers were low for my age height and so forth. So I definetly have asthma, And chronic sinusitis. I have never had a pneumonia shot before. I get a flu shot every year. I am now doing well on Advair Diskus. Thankyou all for you help.

Hello Everyone!

 Thankyou, all for your replies. I am feeling pretty good today. I have had a toothache off and on lately. I get such anxiety going to the dentist. My ASTHMA is in good control. Thanks, to Advair Diskus. I have gotten rid of the sinus infection. I finished up taking the prednisone and that helped. My cough, that I had is now gone. I  had a flu shot recently. I didn't ask about an pneumonia shot though. It slipped my mind. I brought my son in also for a flu shot. He also has asthma. Thanks, again for the advice support. Brandi.
