My doctor just recently diagnosed me of having NARES (non allergic rhinitis with eosinophilia syndrome) with polyposis.
First of all, I have had sinus problems all of my life and have had allergies all of my life which I am currenly getting allergy shots for. I have recently lost a couple allergies which I'm happy about and have never felt better except for the fact that I can't smell as good as I used to. My doctor found out I have nasal polys which seems to be blocking my smell receptors. My father has had multiple surgeries to remove polyps and I seem to follow in his footsteps with allergies etc so I'm thinking I may have to have them removed but the doctor wants to see if using flonase on a daily basis will shrink them down. Sometimes that is the cure but other times they will have to be removed and most of the time they will return. I will have the surgery if I need to, I'm not afraid to do that but if they are going to keep coming back then I would like to see if there is anything that can control their size and just learn to live with it. Like I said, I feel fine but can't smell and I think that the flonase on a daily basis is working but won't find out yet for another few weeks when they look at them again to see if their size has changed. Has anyone out there had this same problem, if so, is there anything you have tried to shrink the polys other than flonase or even something natural that work? My doctor wanted to put me on prednisone which I know works very well but I don't want to be put on that, it turns me into a complete jerk (according to my wife) Any feedback on this issue would certainly be appreciated.
