Asthma, but no allergies?

I have had asthma since I was in 2nd grade. I am 29 now and was always under the impression that allergies were what triggered asthma attacks. I guess b/c I have always had terrible allergies.

My step-daughter has been diagnosed with Asthma since she was 3. She is now 8 and the Dr. only recently sent her to an allergist to be allergy tested. All tests came back negative. She is not allergic to anything! So, what triggers her asthma? Just curious if anyone knows anything about this. Thanks in advance.

Yes you can have asthma without allergies, mine was like that too. Smoke and cold air are my biggest triggers still today, just recently developed asthma with allergies. Children might not test positive for years. Allergy testing is not always exact and you can have allergies to things they can't test you for. I'm allergic to dogs, dust, northern molds ( I live in the south) and plant molds and some medications like eythromycin and the medrol dose pack( which is not the same as prednisone). I hope this might help you. I get upset sometimes when people link asthma to allergies when that is not always true.
