Makeup causing allergic reaction??

I need help! Until recently I have always used powder makeup, but I decided to give liquid foundation a try. I purchased cover girl smoothers foundation. Applies great and I'm happy with it. The whole time I was wearing it, no problem.

The problem comeswhen I take it off. I scrub my face clean using the same stuff I always use. Clean and clear pads, I use toner sometimes, clean and clear cream, and facial moisturizer. All that stuff has never given me ANY trouble. Once I use the C&C pads though, after about three minutes my cheeks start to feel like they are burning. I look in the mirror and my face looks red. After a few hours the redness goes away.

Does this mean I'm allergic to the foundation? Am I smearing the allergen into my skin deeply when I use the C&C pads, which makes my skin react? Just so confused because while I wear it NO trouble.

I also tried a foundation from studio5ive on someones advice, but that was even worse! It make my eyes swell up, I looked like I had bags under my eyes after just one application. Swelling went down a bit but when I smile it looks like I have bags under my eyes. Any advice?? Any suggestions on what makeup I should buy?

I am allergic to many makeup brands. They can sow up anytime even after years of use. My doctor said Almay is the best as it hypoallergenic. I use only Almay now.

Thanks! I'll give anything a shot. Can I expect to find this brand at Wal-Mart? Is there a particular foundation by them you suggest? I was looking at Almay nearly naked on some website.

Yes, Walmart has Almay. I do not have trouble with any of the products and can even use the eye products. Good Luck

Well I went to Wal-Mart today and picked up some Almay. I'll let you know how it works!!

What types of allergy problems have you had with foundations or makeup in general??

Last time a makeup allergy kicked in it was from eyeliner. My eyes swelled shut and the skin peeled off the eyelids in layers. Took a month to clear up. From foundation it does anything from red and splotchy to burning the skin and peeling. Have no problem with the Almay but Revlon is the worst. Gees, really pay for vanity! :) Oh well, a little polish and paint makes us what we ain't! Let me know how Almay works for you. Might want to try a small place on skin for a few days. No use taking chances. Good Luck.

Yikes... you've had some serious reactions cee bee!! I did test a dab of the Almay foundation on my skin for about 6 hours and had no reaction. Thats a good start!! Still a smidge afraid to put it on my entire face, but we'll get there!

The bottom of my eyelids are still swollen. Like when I posted a few days ago, you can only tell if I smile because a line is visible then and it looks like I have bags under my eyes. I don't know what to do!! I can't see progress anymore... and I really don't want to wear any makeup until the swelling goes away.

Hey Kellie,

Wait until your face is totally healed to try new products. Then only try one at a time so you can see if you have a reaction. Make sure you wipe it all off before going to sleep also. Happy Easter:)

Maybe you're allergic to the cleansing pads. They do have chemicals in them. yeah

i too have problems with allergies to make-up. i get peri-oral dermititis from clinique foundation. which i had worn for quite sometime. before developing a reaction to it. my dermatoligist told me to wear almay. since switching i have had no problems until now...... i got a different kind of eye makeup remover (still almay) but oil free. apparently it is to dry.... after just using twice... i woke up in the middle of the night scratching under my eyes. it has the skin around my eyes very irritated and red.

I only use Almay but I take make-up off with plain Vaseline. Works for me.

Usually people have problems with products made by P&G. It is just the brand not the liquid makeup or the powder. Neutrogena is the best choice if you are buying from a regular store. It also clears up your skin as you use it. Nice texture and feel. But many people have problems with P&G.

Regarding make up, sometimes it can be the combination of the different chemicals in the make ups you are applying or using for cleansers that causes the reaction.
If your skin is sensitive I would use as little make up as possible.
Just my 2 cents.

Hello everyone, I think that it is perhaps the C& C pad which are allergic to.I read an article about allergy on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allergies Well, I have quoted some important things that I found quite useful and good to know like "An allergy is an abnormal, acquired sensitivity to a given substance, including pollen, drugs, or numerous environmental triggers....Type I hypersensitivity is characterised by excessive activation of mast cells and basophils by IgE, resulting in a systemic inflammatory response that can result in symptoms as benign as a runny nose" and I aso read that Dramamine "works by preventing the effects of histamine, a substance produced in the body that causes itching, sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes" and again you can read an article on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dramamine about this medication use to treat allergy.

Hi Everyone:)

I am allergic to liquid's on my face. I am a pale person and would like to get color. i am annyed of puttin powder on. i have tryed foundation but my eyes puffed up. Has anyone got any Suggestsions for what i should buy and use thank-you who reply :)

I have issues with some make ups because of dermatitis but I found that if I use Bare Minerals that it doesn't cause my rash to get worse. They have a whole line of products for various skin tones.

idea  Hi Kellie...I feel for you.  Only another woman knows how important good cosmetics are.  I know what cosmetic allergies are all about.  My latest incident was with a new lip moisturizing balm.  After using it one time I woke up the next morning with my lips  bright red and three times their normal size!  Had to get a Cortisone shot in the butt!

Who knows if your allergy is to the makeup or the pads.  I would not use either one in the future.  I use Ponds facial cleaning/moisturizing pads and both Adrianne Arpel's cream and natural mineral powder foundations and blushes.  I have had NO allergic reaction to either and they are both excellent products.  I glad I have found good quality products I'm not allergic to. 

The Adrianne Arpel products (Signature Club A) are expensive on T.V., but I buy the brand new, sealed products on e-Bay for far less.  I would highly recommend you try these products, and no I don't work for her company!!  I get the Pond's cleaning pads at Wal*Mart.

If you happen to be allergic to aspirin as I am, do not ever use any creams or lotions with saliciates in them.  They will cause hives in allergic people. Good luck with it.
