scared of advair. . .

Hello all.

I would appreciate your input. Lately I have had something breathing issues. . . feel as if it's hard to get a full breath. I do have bad reflux and post nasal drip for which I have been taking prevacid. I have a dry cough and a slight wheeze in my chest on the right side. I have done breathing tests every week for the last few weeks at my docs office and those levels look fine.

Today the doc prescribed Advair inhaler--the lowest dose. After reading the insert, I am totally freaked out by it. I am scared to use it. . . anyone have any experience with it that they can share?

I have severe asthma and have been on Advair for over five years with no problems.  You do need to make sure to rinse your mouth out.  In my opinion, if you take into consideration every side effect of every medication, you would be afraid to take any medication.  The best advice I can give you is to make sure all doctors who are treating you are aware of any and all medications you are taking.  They probably put you on a low dose of Advair because there may be a slight possibility that the higher dose of Advair 500, might trigger your reflux.  Please remember I am not a medical professional.  I know before I had my esophagus repaired, my allergist had me on a lower dose of Advair for that very reason.

Hi, I've been using Advair for yrs and now I get thrush from it, for which I have to take another med. I can't seem to breathe without it & wonder how I got this way, and how to get off the stuff. I'm not afraid of it,because all meds come with warnings of side effects to cover themselves, but would like to be able to breathe without it. My dr says it's the best for my condition.

Maybe a daily probiotic would help with preventing the thrush? Just an idea...

Hey, everyone. thanks for your replies.

Carla. I agree with you--all meds have side effects and come with warning. I guess the reason the advair scared me so much was because I was questioning how much I need it. As I said, I'm a bit wheezy but my breathing tests have been fine. I spoke to the doctor about my concerns and we are holding off a little.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.  Advair is a good asthma medication.
