Well I got a fruit which help to whitening your teeth, yes its the straberries. No doubt they are good in taste but berries also have tooth whitening agents in them. You can benefit from the tooth whitening components of the fruits by rubbing some berries to your tooth. However, brush your tooth after following this home remedy for tooth whitening to prevent your tooth from suffering from side effects of acids and sugars in the fruits.

My poor mom had 9 teeth removed, 7 filllings, a bridge removed, and 2 crowns added.  The cost was astronomical since we do not have insurance and did not want to wait until there was an opening at the teaching hospital. She was sedated for the whole 3 hour procedure and did not wake up until 20 hours later.  She is now almost bald in the mouth and I do not know what to do next.  The dentist suggested dentures but I don't know how cooperative my mom will be to let me put them on and off her and not to mention the extra work I will have in cleaning them in addition to her remaining teeth.  She never opens her mouth wide enough as it is just to brush them.

Bridge implant would be my ideal solution but that is more $$$$ and she will have to be put under again and the wait is endless just to see if it will take.  Why is dental advancement so..... NOT advanced????

So first thing first. Does people with dementia just don't get their teeth cleaned or fixed? My poor mom has that look you see of women in their 90's with no teeth because she has quite a few missing in the front area. Implants are out because they are very complicated and also take too long and painful I heard.

My mom got partial dentures yesterday. She does not object to them since she hasn't tried to removed them with her fingers but... she is doing it with her tongue which resulted in the bottom partials coming off on the side. What can I do? I tried them on myself and they are SO heavy. Who invented these things and why haven't they improved over the years. I know about the Valplast but the dentist said it was not beneficial for my mom so we went with the old fashion metal ones.

Does anyone wear partial metal dentures? How do you get used to them if at all? I feel so bad for my mom and for me to have to clean them like crazy. All her food is stuck on them and under them. It's really gross.

How were they not beneficial to your mom? I think that a dentist would make them as easy as possible, especially for a dementia patient. I don't have dentures but I couldn't imagine having metal ones...even partials.

Valplast is a thinner flexible material and they break easier. I told the dentist that my mom grinds her teeth at times so that was another red flag to not get them. In the future when and if she looses more teeth due to decay or what not then the metal dentures can be redone to add more teeth. I was pushing for them at the beginning but she said they are just too fragile.

I'm just having a hell of a time putting them on and taking them off. My mom bites me each time and my fingers are like pin cushions now. She even bites them as I am adjusting them in her mouth. If she had the Valplast then I'm sure they would be in pieces by now.

It's different when it's your own teeth. You open your mouth wide and take them off to rinse out after you eat and put them back on because you are aware of what you are doing. When I do it for my mom it's a constant struggle and very time consuming. To make matters worse I have no idea if I'm even doing it right since she doesn't tell me if it's uncomfortable or is.

I always thought they would clamp on the sides like a tupper wear cover but instead they are hooks that comes off just like that or they seem to be clawing at the gums and looks painful.

Does she have diabetes? Is that why the dentist won't give her false teeth because he would have to extract the old ones first? Sounds like she has gum disease. Rinsing with salt water is an old method to help with inflammation but unless the teeth are removed I don't see how the pain will go away and not risk an infection which she probably already has.

Maybe you need to shop around and find her another dentist. It took me about 5 before an oral surgeon was willing to work on my mom but he was very expensive.

Happy 2018 folks. Mom went to a digital denture maker last month. We are now at the denture stage because her teeth continues to fall out. Does anyone know how to get someone to cooperate for a bite impression? My mom won't bite down so we have to go back next week hopefully to start fresh since she was all tired out from the other impressions taken last week.

Maybe a little "Happy Gas" (Nitrous) would help.

It's probably hard to reason with her...but maybe a bribe of ice cream or simply going home if she bites down...

My mom is not cognitive enough to understand what is asked of her. It was suggested that I push her lower jaw in gently to force it shut so the top and bottom teeth will meet. I think it still requires her to allow it and to follow my lead. Seriously I just need it closed for 10 seconds. I just need a break. I'm already paying an arm and a leg for this digital way of dentures.

Wow I can't believe I posted all this from so long ago. Currently my mom has full bottom dentures and partials on top that are holding on for dear life. The bottom dentures do not fit so they fall off all the time. I feed her as if she has no teeth with fear of choking if she doesn't chew. If I could do it all over again I would have insisted on full set of implants back in 2012 when my mom was still walking and able to follow simple instructions.
