My Nan has Alzheimers ..

I know how you feel.  We think my grandma has dimentia, but she refuses to believe anything is wrong, so she won't go to the doctor.  She hears voices coming from the wall and keeps all the electronics cut off, because she says they make the voices louder.  She is always better when I take her out shopping and she gets it off of her mind.  but now she is such a nervous wreck that it is hard to get her to want to go out.  I would suggest trying to get your nan out as much as possible while she is still willing to go out.  Being around other people will keep her mind sharper and keep it off of the things that bother her.

Have you thought about placing her somewhere? Maybe not right now but soon. My grandpa use to go out by himself and sometimes he got up before my grandma and would go outside. She had to call people to help her find him a few times. That's when we knew he had to be placed, for his safety. He too somewhat had an obsession. His car was his baby. He would check it all the time and he hid things sometimes and couldnt remember where he put them. He always went for walks. When he and my grandma flew to Florida to visit us he and I went for a lot of walks outside. (Almost every hour lol) but I liked it. That let me bond with him on a different level then before. He wasn't exactly the same grandpa I knew growing up and so I wanted to make up for lost time since I had moved.

Hey Lyn, im really really sorry i havent been here in ages! Oh where do i start?! I havent been able to get online much and iv had computer problems.
Things are totally crap here ... Iv got someone in my life at the moment making my life hell and hurting me so much! Iv broke my ribs, the 2nd time in 2 months sad
Nan has been doing great the past few weeks, until 2 days ago, now she isnt doing good at all ... instead of me typing it all out again i will copy and paste out of my online diary ..

Thursday :
opened work at 7:30am, got a phone call at 11:30am off neighbour to say nan had a bad fall in neighbours garden & wasnt awake, & that shed called 999. I ran all the way home, thru the park, in the rain, i was soaked lol, i got there before ambulance, oh god it was awful i cried as soon as i seen her, she had fell out the backdoor (she forgot there was two high steps) and was lying face down, her face was covered in blood, she woke up but didnt know who i was. she was on the floor for an hour while the paramedics were sorting her out, they cudnt move her she was in too much pain, they had to cut her clothes off to get to her arms, they turned her onto her back then gave her morphine, got to hospital, was very upsettin, she was in alot of pain, had lots of xrays and tests, i was there for 9 hours with her, she had to stay in overnight, they have put a temp plaster cast on the whole of her left arm, shes gettin a permanent one next thursday she has to wear for 6 weeks, she has broke it near the top so the plaster is wrapped round her shoulder too, she has badly damaged her knee, cracked two teeth and is covered in bruises and cuts. she cant walk, they tried to get her to walk but she got sick and fainted, she walked a tiny bit goin to the loo but fainted again and she kept having funny turns. shes so ill and they are worried about her heart as she has Angina. it was so scarey, i cried alot lol. she was in and out of consciousness all day i had to leave the ward at 9pm and she cried sayin she wanted to come home, it was awful havin to leave her, the house didnt feel right without her. sad

Friday :
Well we got her home this afternoon, u never know wht they doin with her at hospital. Shes in bed, still really ill and in alot of pain but is drugged up so sleepin alot. gonna take her a long time to get over this. ,Im runnin up n down the stairs every 2 minutes, its hard for her bless her becuz she cant do anythin on her own, she cant walk gud and cant even go the bathroom without help so im needed 24/7. We might have to get a homehelp in, for while im at work if family dont help out. She looks so fragile lying in bed and is in so much pain she keeps cryin, its horrible. Had visitors every 5 minutes walkin in and out the house lol. We r all so worried about her. sad



So as you can see im very very busy now running around for her, Shes still in bed, she cant move without being in severe pain with her arm. Its so hard that she cant even pick her drink up i have to pass it her, im so worried bout whats going to happen once the weekend is over. Im also very very depressed, the past few weeks iv been feeling worse and worse, so this isnt helping eyes

Remember i told u about my cousin? shes the paid carer, She hasnt showed her face since friday morning, but iv got to ring her today and make sure she comes now because im back at work monday so someone is going to have to be here with nan. Shes sleeping at the moment, the pain killers are making her weak and tired, she said she doesnt feel no better. its horrible seeing her in so much pain

Well weve took her back to hospital twice but they have said that her pain and swelling is normal for that sort of brake and they dont want to see her for 2 weeks and then they will have a look and see if its worth operating or putting her arm in a permanent cast. Shes very depressed this week, lots of crying and anger towards us, its doing her head in not being able to do anyhing herself or leave the house, shes very independant and is hating all the fuss, also the Dr said when we found out she had alzheimers that because she is so active and fit it is keeping the alzheimers at bay and slowing it down, but this week iv noticed a big difference with her alzheimers. Shes still in an awful lot of pain and very uncomfortable , she also isnt eating much at all.

Iv got her back downstairs during the day so she is feeling a bit better in herself today, still very frustrated at not being able to even make herelf a drink! But iv had a huge weight off my mind, while i was at work 8am til 6pm all week my cousin has been at my house with our nan 10am til 4pm everyday so she hasnt been left on her own too long, which means less worry for me, but this is going to last for months. Shes still in alot of pain, but theres nothing we can do about it but give her pain killers and wait the 2-3 weeks for appointment. She is still depressed, mainly feeling sorry for herself i think, shes used to going out the house everyday and its killing her being stuck in, but she refuses to go in a car and cant walk too good, so she cant go anywhere.

Im just so tired at the moment, its taking its toll on me, working full time and caring for nan, iv cared for her for years but at least she could make herself a drink and get out of bed etc herself. i have to get up 2 and a half hours before i start work so i can sort her out. My body has had a few knocks around the past couple of weeks (fell down the stairs then broke my ribs, then got hit by a car the other day) and it feels like its about to give up on me!!! Grrrrrrrrr guess im frustrated too! Sorry
