Hello everyone,

An interesting update on my anxiety. My doc called my on Friday afternoon with the results of my blood tests. She said that I had a severe magnesium deficiency that could be responsible for my recent panic attacks and insomnia. Yesterday I started taking massive amounts of magnesium and actually am starting to feel normal again. I slept almost 6 hours last night (which is great compared to the 3-4 hours I've been getting), and my paranoia isn't as bad today as it has been. I'm thinking I'll ween off the Celexa (I've only taken 3 doses of it so far) and see what happens when I just take the magnesium. I'll keep everyone posted.

Hi Laura,

What is a massive dose of mg+ ?  Make sure you continue to work with your physician, we don't want anything to happen to you sweetie.

Hey Laura,

Just so you know, celexa withdrawal symptoms can be intense! I accidently missed a few doses while waiting for my prescription to be refilled and it was nasty. So, please be sure to only wean off it with your doctor's permission. It does work wonders!

Laura i didnt know that low magnesuim could contribute to anxiety but i dont doubt it.I learn something new about this disorder everyday.When you say your mag was low ,how low are we talking? I've never even thought about magnesuim.Maybe that's something i will bring to my Dr.'s attention next time. Like someone else said be careful with getting off that celexa.Withdrawls from any of these SRI's can be nasty.Don't want you to get sick.I'm on Celexa now for going on three weeks.Let me know how you feel coming off it so i'll know in case i ever come off it.Good luck honey i hope that was the answer to your problems.

Hello everyone,

My doc gave me the go-ahead to taper off the Celexa a few days ago. My last dose of 10mg was on Sunday morning. On Sunday afternoon and Monday I felt strange, had increased anxiety, sweating, stomach ache and some mood swings. Yesterday I felt almost normal, and today I'm feeling like myself again. The panic seems to be gone for now (and hopefully for a long time). I've started taking liquid mineral supplements this morning which had an almost immediate calming effect. I asked the doc how I could have gotten an magnesium deficiency, she said that it could have been the combination of almost constant diarrhea from my Ulcerative Colitis and the vigorous physical exercise of the half-marathon training. She and I are going to get together next week to evaluate how things are going with the mineral supplements. I really hope that's all that is going on...I'd prefer not to be on meds if I don't have to, but would choose them any day over anxiety attacks. I'll keep y'all posted.

Glad your doing well and I am sure the training and the D were contributing to your loss of Mg+.  I hope this is the magic cure for you.

i know i have been taking it for a while it helps with my muscle twitching, i had read it on line the symptoms of low mag and it fit me, it hasn't stopped all my problems but it really helps with the twitching and muscle spasms
