I started training last week for my new job as a teleservice rep. I completed a week of the 2 week in class training. Then Monday the 10th came around again and I was so sick. I started coughing from Sunday and lost my voice by Monday. I called in, got no one so I still went in. My trainer sent me home. I thought I would feel better but my throat and chest were so painful. I dont have a cold. My sinuses drain into my chest. I got antibiotics and have not been able to go back this week. So I am thinking..ok my back keeps me from doing what I used to do, now a job where I will only use my voice and now my voice is gone.

The good news is I have been approved for disability...heard this 2 days ago and the company still wants me to work for them so I can reenter training on Monday the 17th. I will try the job part time but if its too much I will still have the diability as a safety net.

I should also say that I have been feeling a bit better after my hospitalization. The clouds have not completely lifted but I am seeing some light. And....I am longing to see the grass and no more snow. We dont have anywhere else to pile anymore snow. But I know spring will come...and so will summer.

  DOR.........I am not sure about where you live but I do know here in Ontario.Canada
Once approved for disabilty and they find out you are working they will disquailfy you

It might not be the same though with your case ...just a thought .......

Am SOOOOO looking forward to no more snow and lotsa sunshine as well

I am glad your feeling better too, and I agree with Lyn, I would check on the disability act rules as far as being able to work and still collect the disability.  I am assuming you are talking about the Social Security Disablility.

Thanks for responding. I wondered too about working and disability. I tried 2 jobs last year but was not able to keep them due to my illness. However I keep trying to work. I have not had this problem with my sinus affecting my voice for over 20 years so when I was told about the disability I wondered if it was a sign to let the job go...not knowing if I will be able to even keep it just like the other two.

Lyn it is Ontario so I checked online and it said they take 50 percent of what you work from what they would give you. But I do not know how they look at someone just starting out. I will call and speak to someone.

Hey Kitt,

You are right. I sure dont need this. For some it would be easy to just relax, live on disability and dont even bother about the job. I live a simple life so what i would get from disability could get my daughter and I through monthly. However that part of me that HAVE to see things to the end find it hard to quit training and trying the job so I can at least feel comfortable with myself that I DID NOT GIVE UP but at least tried. Mind you I tried 2 jobs like this last year and they did not last because they were stressful BUT I am telling myself this one is a bit different and I like working with people whether its on the phone or in person. The Stressful part of most customer service job is from the EMPLOYER who monitors every call and you have to maintain at least 80 to 90% QA.

This conflict is affecting my mood. Most might think I am making a mountain out of a mole hill but I hope someone understands my personality type. thanks again for responding.

Hey you are not making a mountain our of a mole hill,  you have set a goal and it is realistic so give it your best shot.  Either way your a winner.  Kudos for you positive spirit.  Throw out the stress and to borrow a phrase from Nike, just do it. It is how you play the game that matters.

I am Karen, I think that it is getting mixed up because she is getting there and I am getting by and believe it or not there is somebody on here called getting better. So we are all getting.

I am so happy for your job Dor, but I do not want you to lose your disability. Here in the US I think you are allowed to earn 800.00 a month. I am not even sure of that. But if they take half of your wages, make sure that it will still be worth working.

You are sounding great, I am so happy for you!

for sharing my getting there. I am still thinking about this job and wish I could just forget about it. Yes they deduct 50% plus my child support goes to

them too. So working would be just to get out and do something constructive instead of staying home. I will also have about $400 more per month. In all

though I do not want to lose the disability because I have had to quit working more than once in the past due to my health. Apart from the mental I get

bad crippling migraines monthly and sometimes twice in one month and this keeps me away from work too. I am praying about it. I have till Monday to decide what i will do. I am thinking maybe I should just do some volunteer work instead of stressing myself with a job now that my prayers have been answered and I got approved for disability.

I am sure you are looking forward to spring as eagerly as I am. All the best and have a good weekend.

YA I get that now lol

Dor..I tried as well as you to stay working ....I owned a retirement home I HAD to sell it and I was so hurt and so depresed after giving up my life's work ..Nursing the Elderly........

I never wanted to go on disability either but it came down to that or nothing ya know hun

YOU have worked all your life and you are still trying I am so proud of you ...REALLY........
BUT you also have to make sure you know your LIMITS.......and if you are going to get sicker or added stress from this is it WORTH it too you in the long run??
We paid taxes and unemployment all our working yrs it is not like we have just sat and done nothing swetie and it doesnt mean you will be less of a person either.....Just another person UNABLE legitamitaly,BUT not wanting to have to go on the system....am I close to your personality??

I SO agree with Kitt give it a shot if you cannot do it then no worries k plz dont make yourself sicker and do know I believe you are a hard worker want to contribute and are trying your Dam****( I did aterisks lol)
Yes it is 50% of your gross income not your net ........
Plus here in Ontario they take off half of your Child Tax Credit if you recieve that and support if you get that dollar for dollar ......at least with Ontario works they do the support that way not sure about Disabilty
They wanted to take half of Cait's Survivor Benefits from her dad's death pension....(I was able to stop that legally by having it put in her name and her account for school.).........so it would not be classified as MY income .....

Please know I am backing you 110% and I am proud of you for giving this your all..........

LOL we were posting at about same time sweetie....

I do volunteering and its only when I am feeling up to it ya know but it does help
PLUS you will recieve lump sum of back pay from the time you applied
My back pay was almost 10,000.......I remember that day all too well it was feb 24 th ......I nearly fell off the chair and I did not have to claim it got another disabilty check a week later for the next month.......

You are so fabulous!! You keep on trying and that inspires me to keep going too.  I sat around on disability because of my anxiety and depression for two years and felt like the slime of the earth...slowly, slowly I've turned my life around and now I work and study to be an an anxiety/crisis counsellor.  I still can't believe where I have come from and it sounds like you on the path to great things.  I really respect your dedication and brave soul. 

Keep being wonderful and know that the HW family are 100° behind you :-)

Good Morning and I just wanted to leave you a message telling you how well I understand your personality type. I think you are strong and brave and you want so bad to meet your goal but the stress is already affecting you and the what if's have set in.  It becomes so hard to decide which way to go and if we could only see the future we would hopefully choose the right path to go down.

Hey Sweetie you will be on the right path, I am sure of this so keep the faith and remember to just take babysteps and do what feels right for you.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for your words of encouragement and understanding. I am still fighting the chest infection and had to go back to the doctor yesterday. He gave me more antibiotics as he said the other doc did not give me enough. He also gave me ADVAIR an inhaler. I am still coughing and wheezing. I am hoping the meds help so it does not turn to pneumonia.

At this rate I dont see myself returning to training on Monday so I am taking it as a sign that I should let the job be for now. I have never had this type of ailment before so it must be for some reason. I remember getting German measles at about 5 weeks pregnant and the doc said I could not carry it. I never questioned it but took it as a sign that that was what was supposed to happen.

DOR, try not to see this as a setback, but as a way of your body saying whooah! Hang on there girl! Ahh my kitten is dancing across my computer I had better go before she crashes it.  I am glad you are on anti-boitics and I hope they work for you....have a great weekend yourself (altho it's monday here so no fun for me.) xx

thanks a lot for your well wishes and concern. Meg I want you to know that you are NOT a slime for being on disability for two years. I have not worked since 2005 except for those 2 jobs that did not last. Some people made me feel bad and worthless especially my 21 year old son. he has no sympathy for me and call me lazy. Thats one reason I told him to get his own place. Its good of you to to be going to school now and working. I applaud you for that because its not an easy feat.

I totally agree make sure you are on strong antibitics
I just got done with the whole Pnuemo thing and I am still having probs with wheezing and some congestion but phlegm is not balck nor dark anymmore so I think I am beating it ..onmy second course of antibitics almost done....
