Lexapro . . . I need to vent and need help and advice

     I started off with 5mg of Lexapro to like 1/2 of  2.5 mg of Lexapro lol   and now im back up to

   2.5 mg of Lexapro since my anxiety has been creeping up on me due to lifes stress . I been

going through alot these past months I've had my anxiety controlled for like a year. I think 2.5 mg

isn't doing the job , and well i want to go back to 5mg of Lexapro but not sure ???????

I tried Lexapro and started at 10mg and went to 20 mg after 3 weeks, it never did work for me.

Your dose sounds very low but each person is different in how they respond to meds.

Hope you talk with your PCP and think about increasing your dose.  Just my 2 cents worth.

I would also be talking to your doc about either changing or increasing your dose

Lexapro does work for some but not for all as do all meds ..........

Please keep us posted and I hope you get the right dose or med for you

Definitely arrange to talk with your doc about it. Since you already have some experience with how you feel on the higher dose, you've got some good information to share with him/her. I find it really helpful when talking with my doc about my meds to be able to compare and contrast for him how the current dose feels versus other higher or lower doses that I've been on.

I'd talk to your Dr. I take 7.5mg now and had to slowing get up to that. I started at 2.5mg but it didn't work for me. I was at 5mg for a long time but my Dr bumped me up due to a stressful job change and the desire to get me off the benzos in the near future. Eventually I'll probably go up to 10mg.

Please do talk with your doc about this as already has been said

You may also be asking for a fast acting med to help as well for the a/p for in between the lexapro
Also self help techniques are good in combo with meds........

We all react differently to different meds, you may need a new one or to change the dose. I'm sounding like a parrot here, but I think your doc is the best person to check with. I hope things improve for you. Take care.

I agree with the others, checking in with your Doctor would be the best way to go.

I was also one of the unfortunate ones that Lexapro did not work for. I had high hopes for it, as I have read that it has helped so many people.

The dosage may need to be "tweaked" or it may not be the correct drug for you. There are so many others to try if Lexapro isnt doing the job. My Doctor explained it to me as a keyring with hundreds of keys, and you have to just keep trying the keys until one fits the lock. And you are basically doing this in the dark....lol....since there are no definitive blood tests to guide the Doctors to know which AD drug will be the most effective.

How are you feeling today? I tried Lexapro a couple of years ago but I didn't take it consistently so I cant really give you any good advice about it.
I have finally found a med that works for me. I call my pills my "sane coctail". I take 40mg paxil a day with 2 doses of 15mg Buspar a day plus a sleepin pill so I can go to bed. You could ask your doc about Buspar. It is a very mild nerve pill and it doesn't make me tired or out of it. It just noticably calms me down. I hope you find the right coctail for you! I take Lexapro as an antidepressant but it doesn't touch my anxiety.  I take Zyprexa for my anxiety.

I'm on Celexa (the pre-cursor drug to Lexapro), and have found that I really can't alter my dosage based on times of stress. The half-life for both my med and yours is so long that even if you stop taking the drug cold turkey, your serotonin levels will remain high enough in your system for you not to feel any noticeable symptoms for one to three weeks. Even if I miss a dose or two, I'm fine for a week or two and then I'll randomly have a bad panic attack followed by medium-level anxiety which fades again in a couple of days. As everybody else on here has said, talk to your doc and see if he/she thinks upping the dose will help. I've learned from about two years of experience that I really can't screw around with my dosage much unless I want a month of very unpleasant anxiety.

PLZ do not stop any antidepressants w/o talking to your doc and having a weaning shedule
Everyone reacts diferently to meds and coming off or starting them ..........

Your doc is really the one to be talking to about the meds
WE WILL give you all the support and care you do need to get you thru........LYN
