Hey Jen,
I started having panic attacks last year. However throughout highschool i'd say i was always quite a nervy person, and prone to anxiety. However i went through a particularly dark period , i experienced morbid depression, derealization, chronic anxiety etc. There was a time when i was having great difficulty even looking my own family in the eye. My mental health was really not a good state. After hearing about
the extremely low success rate of psychotherapy and psychiatric drugs I went on a search to find the answers elsewhere. I tried Yoga, different types of meditation, homeopathy, energetic healers, herbal remedies but nothing was really feeling right and I certainly wasn't seeing any improvement.
Then through a recommendation i found the books "relaxing into your being" and also "the great stillness" by Bruce Frantzis, A taoist master and the only western lineage holder. I began practicing the water method of meditation daily. Basically according to this approach, all our repressed emotional trauma's are stored in the body as energetic blockages. By going deeply into your body at a very subtle level, you can connect with these blockages and dissolve and release them. Another precept, is that nothing can be solved through the mind, that is through 'thinking'. You cannot 'think' or talk your way out of the situation, because the psychological condition is just a symptom of the underlying energetic condition of your body. To the extent that your 'chi' is blocked, is the extent to which your thinking will be distorted. So to truly heal you need to get to the real source of the condition.
This is a basic explanation, and i'm still very much a learner. But since starting on this path I have had many profound experiences, and after 6 months of practicing every day i'm almost 100%. Check out Sarah Jane on youtube. She fully recovered from Schizophrenia after practicing this method of meditation daily for over 2 years.
If you like to read more theory on this, "the chi revolution" is a good one, and also "
opening the energy gates of the body" both by bruce frantzis.
