My doc. put me on xanax yesterday for my dizziness, it is .25 mg twice daily. I took one yesterday afternoon when I get my script filled and I have taken one this morning. My dizziness is different now than it was yesterday and my eyes are very dialated. Is this just a side effect that will go away or should I stop taking this. Last night was the first time in three months that I could actually play with my kid, I was so happy.

I've taken xanax for years, and unfortunately don't remember what side effects I went through in the beginning.  I suggest that you either call your doctor or pharmacist and ask them if what you are feeling is a normal side effect.  It will give you piece of mind to know one way or the other.  It's definitely worth looking into as it sounds like it helped some and you were able to play with your kids.  Come back and let us know what you find out.

If the med is working for you why would you not take it.  idea Just having one day of getting to play  with your kids is awesome.

Hi Andrea

Im taking Tamazipam which is in the same class of drugs as xanax and did find they made me a little dizzy when i first started taking them and they do make my eyes dialated.  These meds do work well but agree with post from Junebug and would suggest you check it out with your doctor.

Ive been on xanax for 6 years and find it to be more effective than any other anti anxiety med. its good you are on a low dose.

Hi Andrea,

I was on xanax for about 10 years and I found it was great for fast acting anxiety relief. It did make me dizzy to begin with, and so I avoided driving for the first two weeks. The dizziness went away. .25mg x 2 a day is a fairly low dose, I would stick with it for a bit longer if it is working. Be sure to stick with the dosage though. It can be one of the easier meds to become reliant on. Hope you are having fun with your kiddies!

What about anyone's pupils being huge while starting Xanax. Mine looke like I am a drug user, this xanax might be to strong for me.  I just took a half of my .25 this morning because my eyes were still huge when I woke-up this morning from the one I took last night.

I'm just wondering if anxiety would make a person's pupils dialate? Like a reaction to fear or something? I've taken Xanax on an as needed basis for many years, .50 mg and I think that this dose is considered pretty low. I never looked at my pupils before taking and after but I will next time (probably later today!) I'll check when I'm feeling anxious, then take the Xanax and check my pupil about 45 minutes later. I'll post what I find out. Hope you are feeling better and playing with your kids again today.

Hi Andrea,

Xanax can cause dilated pupils when you first start it as well as when you are coming off of it.

I understand that the SSRIs (Paxil) can also cause dilated pupils. Another one of those side effects that doesn't get mentioned very often.

Good Luck and take care but do be careful with the meds.

I had huge pupils when I started taking xanax..wear your sunnies for a few days and it will improve cool

As Kitt said, it will happen again if you stop the dosage. Xanax is an opiate so this is a normal reaction okay?
