Very depressed over the anxiety of the two feared diseases!

Hi all,

I am from Vietnam, my English is bad!

I cannot feel a moment in peace and I am here to look for guide and sympathy.

I am very worried and I have all the symptoms of OCD. I am worried over the two diseases: HIV and rabies.

HIV

1. Three years ago,  I had a shock about the risk of catching HIV. I have tested negative, then I was afraid that the doctor did not use the new needle to draw my blood. Then I went to ask her about the reuse of needles, she were laughing at me. That is all right!

2. Then I got involved in the incident of HIV again, I left my bottle of water in the hotel room, when I came back, I drank the bottle up and I was afraid that someone could put HIV infected blood into the bottle.

3. I went washing my hair, I was afraid that the worker could pour fresh blood infected with HIV into my face, and possibly, some of the drops could enter my eyes( I opened my eyes and I felt that some of the drops of water( or blood) entered my eyes.

Now I developed the very frustrating feeling, when I am walking down on the streets, there are some trees above my head, and I think that many drugs could hang the HIV infected needle under the tree in order to infect everyone. Does this happen in the history ?

RABIES

Because I had exposed to the Rabies before, and I have read a lot of information about this disease, I understand that Rabies is very fatal.

I live in Vietnam, one of the country where Rabies is still occurred. I have taken vaccine but the vaccine could protect me for one year only, not for my whole life.

I am worried that in the future, I could be exposed to the Rabies again. I am very freaked out to see the dogs, there are many dogs around my house, I am sure that many of them are not vaccinated.

But I also develop the anxiety of Rabies when I have meal in the restaurant or buy food from food stand, I am afraid that some rabid dogs could lick the food before I eat it. Or when I am eating a bowl of noodle, I have to answer the cell phone, and the dog could lick the food I am eating, then I eat the infected food and rabies enters my mouth and infect me!

I want to define the real transmission of Rabies. Could I catch Rabies from eating the infected food or drink? How long does Rabies live on food, drink or on objectives, for example, the glass? I want to have the very reliable source of Rabies Transmission. So that I donot worry over the exposure of Rabies again!

I am planning to see the doctor, but I do not want to take meds because the meds could affect the production of my antibody against Rabies!

Please help me! Could any one help me? Show me the link or web site about the best knowledge of HIV transmission and Rabies transmission!

I also think you need to talk to a doctor about your anxiety. You are worrying about things that just will not happen. A hair stylest putting blood in your eyes? You should write a horror movie!!

  If I recall right the chances of you getting HIV is very slim at best, It is more on the blood to blood transfer and the HIV virus dose not live long at all outside the body, even if someone did drink off your water bottle that was infected with HIV there is no way you can get it even if the doctor did reuses needles (but I really don't believe this) you would have to be next in line with the same needle with very fresh blood on it, as the virus can not live outside the body and dies off quickly

  But do post in the HIV forum on this part, as I'm not a doctor and this is ONLY what I have read about HIV (true of not I can't say for sure) but the HIV forum have WAY better knowledge on this and they are very helpfull ppl.

Huy, you sound very worried! I know what it feels like to have scary thoughts! I'm glad you're going to see your doctor. It's important that you try and stop the scary thoughts. Change the negative thoughts in your head to positive ones. Let us know what the doctor said.

By the way, I would like to ask about the Corticosteroids and immunosurppressive treatment, because these meds could lead to the failure of the Verorab vaccine. Are these meds used to treat Anxiety Disorder?

You do understand me! For Rabies, I am worried because I am living in Vietnam, I have good vaccine but I DO NOT have the medical eqquipment to test my antibody( the test called Serological test, if the antibody level is above 0,5 IU/ml, I am safe).

What I have read in the internet about vaccine and its test to check the antibody level is VERY different from what I have in my country. SO, once I have reveived the vaccine, I did not know how it works in my body. Is my antibody level good? Do I need an addtional shot?...

SO I feel that I am swiming in the large river, I am alone!

But I promise, I will be OK! I am praying!

Thank you for your precious time to help me to get though this difficult time!

I have all the symptoms of OCD. Typically, I always check the door for times and check the gas before going to bed. When I go on the street( I ride the motorbike like everyone in Vietnam), I always look carefully the road or the trees above my head, just to make sure that I would not stucked by the needles( fear of HIV).

Rabies is another fear in my life, but It is getting better, I am trying to convince my self that Rabies is not transmitted via FOOD. For example, if I eat the rabies infected food, am I infected? I ask this because I always ...connect the rabies tranmission with HIV transmission :-(.
