Meds....

Sometimes it can take 6 to 8 weeks for a new medication to kick in and for you to feel a positive affect so maybe give the Paxil a bit longer to get in your system, I have not heard of vistaril so cant comment on that. Xanax belongs to a group of medications called Benzodiazepines these medications do work well for people with anxiety but on the down side can get addictive so I would recommend just to use when you really need one but I am not a medical professional so chat to your doctor. I have been on lots of different medications, I give them time to get into my system and then if i feel they are not helping I speak to my doctor or pdoc about it and on there advice change or up the medication I have not found this a problem so would say just tell the doctor how you are feeling and see what they say. I hope you find something which works for you have you given therapy a go? which works well for people with anxiety.

Hi South74 I take Xanax myself, I take the lowest dose .25 mg, and only use when needed. Which for me is maybe 1-3 times a month. I am not worried about addiction for myself as I only use it ocasionally. Maybe you might want to stick with the Paxil and have the Xanax for those bad times. Just a thought!

Sounds like a good idea to raise your paxil before trying something else see how it goes. I have had the same problem getting Benzo's from the doctor for the same reason as you say. See how things go and if they don't get better go back to your doctor. Look into CBT which is a type of therapy and combined with the right medication has good results in dealing with your anxiety, lots of members here have gone through CBT and I am due to have some in March. I wish all the best and keep posting to tell us how you are getting on.

Definitely ask, and see how that goes. You might find it easier to get things across to your doctor clearly if you make a list for him/her of how you're feeling, specifically. Being able to think in detail about how you're responding to the current meds might make it easier for your doctor to consider the best adjustment. For instance, you might expand on when you feel sleepy - soon after taking the meds, much later, always the same time of day?
