Good Morning to All,

The giant green haired monster, Stkitt is back..........again  rolleyes

I have had 3 members with concerns that our forum has more Off topic threads then threads about members with current issues with anxiety.  It is beginning to feel like "My Space"

17. No irrelevant or off-topic posts. Posts which are not relevant to the forum topic may be deleted at the moderator's discretion. 

I feel at this time we need to hone down the number of OT on the board. 

If you notice a thread has been locked it may be due to the rule above and to help get back to  providing support and advice to members in need.

Of course we will always have a few OT as they are good for the soul too.

THIS is one of the reasons I have not been posting as much in the last while...........

This forum is about anxiety and panic and some issues with depression

YES we do a couple of threads to help us laugh and get thru the FIGHT

What reading the off-topic threads makes me feel closer to the people who are going through similar things. Im all up for deep and serious threads about anxiety and supporting members going thru a hard time but sometimes when ive had a bad day at work its nice to come online and find out ther some1 else with anxiety that likes the same music as me. If ive had really bad day ther is nothing better than reading a joke thread, after a good rant of course. smhair

I haven't posted much, but I believe these off topic posts are necessary, as the main reason we have bad anxiety and depression is because we focus TOO MUCH on ourselves and our problems. Distraction once in a while is very good therapy. I don't find those off topic posts inappropriate at all.

We all need Balance in life. JMHO.

WE do need them as has been said numerous times
BUT we also have to use this space as a way to support and help others that are dealing with anxiety and panic

I have done a FEW O/T posts in my time here and YES they do help
It is when almost all are not about anxiety or panic is what we ( I ) am talking about

I am sorry I have to agree with Kitt and Lyn on this. In fact I was going to post something similar myself. This morning when I came on, of all the 25 posts on the front page, 14 were OT posts.

We do need balance, but I believe the OT posts have gotten a little out of control. We have new folks coming here seeking help all the time, and I think that some might be put off if they are looking for support and only see a bunch of OT posts.

We are an anxiety/panic SUPPORT forum and I would like to see the board get back to where we were a few months ago.

I personally have had some personal issues that I have wanted to discuss, but have been put off with the spirit of the board lately. I have also noticed alot of regulars missing from the board, and I miss them alot. So lets work on getting back to the support forum we have been for years. JMHO

      Whoa, I only wrote my opinion. I am not misunderstanding. Sigh...so sorry that I made you shout. rolleyes   And like I said, I have only  posted a few and have not been here long. Could you just tone down a bit when speaking to new people? I don't understand why you need to get so stressed out about it. I just wrote my opinion, AS a new member. I haven't been here long, I don't know what has been going on. I will refrain from posting my opinion on these types of posts from now on.

Melodee I do not think she was yelling at you at all. I thinking she was just trying to make a point that not all OT posts are out of line, just when they take up over half the board thats when it becomes a problem. These posts are not directed to just one person, but to all members. I am sorry you misconstrued her message. Stay with us, we are a great family, that just got a little off track for a bit.

hi everyone,

i agree that off topic threads can be a great way to get to know each other, but do see how they can clog up the place and cause the a/p related threads to get lost in the shuffle. would it maybe be helpful to have one specific "off topic" thread that gets stickied? (can you sticky threads here?) that way there's just one place where everyone can go to talk about things going on in their lives that aren't a/p related and the rest of the threads can be devoted to topics that are strictly a/p related?

just a thought! :-) i hope everyone is having a good day.

Kitt, Lyn and Gail are right on with this one :)

We have to follow the forum rules because we are all blessed to have this wonderful place and Peter set up the standards along with senior members long before I came here to HW :) This is why respectful communication is needed so much between mod/members alike. When we get the chat schedule sorted out, then we can talk about more "off topic" things but we still will be bound by HW rules and regs. I totally agree about bringing our family back to the way it is supposed to be. . . I know we've been working hard to accomplish this and I think we are getting there one day at a time :)

It does make me sad that many are feeling like they can't post the issues they are dealing with and recieve the support from our family here. . . Please don't ever feel that way my friends. . . That is why communication is key in this situation and a Peer Support Group can not funtion properly without it :) If anyone has an issue and needs to talk to me, my email is only a click away and I'll always be there for anyone that asks for my help :) Everyone is just so great on here and that is why I came to the A/P forum and stayed here like a bad habit, lol :)

I'm not sure if I am being paranoid or not, but if I am to blame for the off topic threads then I appolagise for that....I will try to be more serious and respectful.  I am a very open person and maybe I have gotten a little excited about finding such a safe and happy, supportive place to connect with.....SORRY!  I asked if we could exchange facebook or my space addys and the reply was ok but only in your personal info...but there is no place to put it, maybe if there was a spot in the area where our email addys are we could put it in and we could stop having so many off topic threads and only post important posts. Maybe?? Just a suggestion. Again sorry if it has been me!!  gillxx

You are doing just fine Gilly! All of us need to post and ask for help when we need it, if not I know I would be lost too, lol :) Please always feel free to ask a question, you can even email one of the mods if you want. And everyone always feel free to post there issues to seek help from our peer support group. . . I really don't see why not because that is what we are all here for :) We just need to all be sure to read the rules and reread them. . . Don't feel lonely because I'm constantly reading them again myself :) It is a lot of info to take in.

You can post your My Space in your profile.  If you  click on any members user name  in the posted by column it will take you to that person's profile and you can find their info.........their email and any thing else they wanted to post to the members off  the board so you have to click to see it.

Did you know you can edit your member profile, update options/preferences, change your password and more?  Just click on the "Control Panel" link in the top left corner of the forums (visible to members that are logged in).  There is a place to type in your Homepage....

Post you My Space info in your profile............... turn Your email . Info you want to share.

You must be a member to read the profiles.  Remember the forum is open to anyone for reading not just members is why we ask you to put your info into profile.

Gilly, we love the picture idea.  Chat is another good one, I just need time to set it up with Sam's help.

We cannot pin to the top any one thread.  The Ones that are info at the very top, the stickies cannot be posted in as  a thread.  Only a mod can change a post in there as they are to be locked.

Remember we all have the same problem.........A & P and we are family.

Hi every1,

Bein really honest i havn't been around much for a variety of reasons for 1 thing my A/P is under control rite now. But reading over yesterday i can see some of the points. I beginning to think every1 singing from the same page O/T threads are fine and needed but not allowing them to over run the board and scare away possible new members of the family is important too.

Nanners, I miss old regulars too, i havn't seen percycat post for awhile and ther wil be abig smile on my face when she does. I dont think O/T push away regulars i think our lives get in the way of us posting sometimes. I kno i post less wen im doing well.

Melodee, Lyn is possibly the sweetest Mod on this site I know she would never wana upset any1 in a million billion years.

As far as repetitive posts go ther 2topics which repeat over and over again.

1. Are my symptoms caused by an anxiety disorder
2. Wht is your methods of controlling panic attacks.

That y im voting for 2 additional threads to stay at the top of the page. Namely the tell tale symptoms of anxiety. the second a thread every1 in the family can post in saying methods of how manage to control acute panic attack symptoms.

As for handling general anxiety thrown up by life and sitiuations tht what i believe we need each other's help for and sometimes tht help comes of people listening to a ood old fashioned rant and sometimes it comes in the form of some light relief bought by an O/T thread. :P
